![]() | I just bought a Venus fly trap from a local store. my hope is that it will catch a few of the gnats that i have noticed in my grow room. Would it be safe to put it in the top shelf of my grow closet above all of my clones, or should i just leave it in my apartment? ![]()

One venus fly trap isn't going to even begin to make a dent in a gnat infestation. You would be better served by simple fly paper in your grow room. If the insects are breeding in the soil of your plants, I highly recommend adding nemotodes at your next watering. I did this, and had a gnat infestation dissapear in one week. ![]() | the gnats don't come from the soil, they come from outside whenever I open the window. they just always seem to find there way into my grow room. Can't really say I blame them. ![]()

Canna, Of course they came from outside initially, but if they are present in your grow room, you can count on them breeding in there. Fungus gnats breed in soil. and are very common. Sticky traps are the first line of defense. Just put some in there. This is also a very good way to estimate the extent of the infestation. I had these gnats in my grow area and completely eradicated them with nemotodes, which can be purchased at gardening and hydro shops. take a look at this link and see if these are what you are dealing with: http://insects.tamu.edu/extension/bu...uc/uc-028.html A venus fly trap is limited to about 10-12 closures of each trap. Each trap is limited in this way. Factor in that once an insect is caught, the trap closes, and will not reopen until the insect is digested, leaving only the exoskeleton behind. This takes time. Regards, Dr. Kellogg

![]() | I have never seen more then two in there at any given time. I also noticed them in my kitchen and the rest of my apartment. Also I just transplanted 9 of my plants and didn't see a single gnat in the soil. I honestly do not think it is an infestation. Thats why the Venus flytrap with about 9 sets of teeth seemed like the apropriate response to prevent infestation. I have a tree and other plants outside that very well could be infested and could be the source of them. ![]()

A single venus flytrap is limited for the reasons I outlined above. Do you think adding some fly traps in your grow room is a bad idea? They cost about $2 a roll. I've given you my $.02. ![]() | well if it wasn't infested before, it is now. I put two rolls of fly paper in the room and I will check my local plant supply store for nemotodes. Is there any other effect on the plants after using these? ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | It's hard to do integrated pest management indoors. I think people generally have better luck with insect predators than they do with plant ones (like venus f.t., jack in the pulpit, skunk weed, etc.) Lady bugs and preying mantis bugs are the best. They can be mail ordered if you go to an organic gardening website. You usually need a big garden to keep even a few of them alive & feeding, but it's worth looking into. I'm all for it, though - def. better than insecticides. Good luck bro
