Hey there, my plants have been growing with red branches and sometimes even the main stem is red. Oftentimes, the branches look like they're striped red! I just noticed the obvious discrepency after growing a few new plants with totally green stems and realized ,"hey, I've had a prob this whole time without even realizing it!" The branches are weak and puny and don't harden much at all. Wassup? BTW...I just noticed on my flowering plants that the stems are a light tan color all the way to harvest even with a regular fert schedule. Why? Why! Why?! Thanks for help guys

But i do know, That on my strain currently I've had branches getting more purple every day since ive been using the growth hormones... I think it has something to do with maturity on my plant.... just goes purple stems when it gets a few pistils.

I think the problem could be a Phosphorus deficiency or a sulfur deficiency. Check the 'Plant Troubleshooting Guide #2' in my sig. for more details! Hope this helps... ![]()

I agree with Fillabong and Euphus in that it's not that big a deal if you have some purple/red pigmentation in a few stems but if the main stem is purple and the plant is weak I think you've got another thing coming (likely a P deficiency!) Also, some 'purple' plants buds, leaves, or pistils tend to turn purple when flowering in cool temps but I do'nt think this means the stems. The purpling of the buds is sweet! ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I had purple stems on my last grow; which was incredibly hot; mid - low 90's So while I've no doubt that purple stems might be caused by cooler temperatures as well; I just wouldn't limit it to that. I also failed to mention earlier that purple stems usually means the 'beginnings' of P def I believe...So I wouldnt worry about it much unless your plants growth seems negativly impacted. However; bumping up the nutrients a tad probably wouldnt hurt anything assuming theyre lookin healthy otherwise; and the pH is balanced ![]() Good growin, Afterburner

![]() | right on guys, thanks! A P def. huh? Possibly caused by nutrient lockout I suppose...They get a moderate dose of 20-20-20 and the leaves are a pretty good color green, just not lush or anything...but my ph has been measured at around 6. I think that P doesn't become available until 6.5. I've been including some hydrated lime w/ ea. ferting and seem to be having much better results!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I've had red / purple stems many times before. Sometimes they go away after a week or so other times they stay. I do believe that it may be a little to much of this or to much of that but if your leaves and the whole plant looks healthy I wouldn't worry about it. The plant does tell you what it needs if you just pay attention. I had seedlings that had red stems once and I went nuts but then the color changed back.
