What is it with these brown spots on my leaves?
permalink

1. Are you growing in Soil or using a Hydro system? Soil

Indoor or outdoor? Indoor

2. How old are your plants? various flowering dates

Are you growing Clones or from Seed?Clones

3. How tall are your plants? various

4. What size containers are they planted in? 18oz cups

5. What is your Soil mix composed of? 60/40 FFOF/Perlite

Are you using pre-fertilized potting soil? FFOF

6. How often do you water? every 2-3 days as needed

- What are you watering with?
Tap water phd as close to 6.5 as a color chart lets me get.

7. Are you using fertilizers?

Using Fox Farms line, Ummm I didn't keep track terribly closely, but they haven't had more than a half dose of anything, every other watering
I also have given them 2 half doses of calmag plus to fix some canoe leaves

8. What kind of lights are you using? (HPS, MH, Fluoroescent, Halogen, Incandescent "Plant Lights")
940w Hortilux HPS conversion on a MH ballast
How many lights? 1
How close are the lights to the plants? 20-30 inches

9. What size is your grow space? larger then my light

10. What is the temperature and humidity in your grow space?
70-80F 40-55RH
11. What is the pH of the soil?
unknown, didn't want to waste a test capsule on these clones I was experimenting with.
12. Have you noticed any insect activity in your grow space?
nothing signifigant, or harmfull, just the occasional insect
13. How much experience do you have growing?
I'm almost through my first harvest.

ok.. I have pics from 3 different small clones I have flowering, one is about 5 weeks in and the others are between 2-3 weeks in.

my last feeding on them all was a half dose of calmag, and a quarter dose of bloom. I have 3 other clones flowering right beside them that have gotten the same waterings and appear to have no symptoms, and look happy as a jay bird.

I donot smoke tobacco, but my friend that helped me put the room together does, and has smoked in my grow room a few times, with all my plants in there. He was informed recently about the tobbacco mosaic virus, and has been told no more smoking in there.(I don't really like him smoking in my house in the first place.. it freaking stinks, but I'm a nice guy, and an ex-smoker)

the brown spots are very hard/dry/brittle, and start very small, and progress to the larger splotches.

I flushed my cups last night incase it was just nute burn or something similar, and can't tell this morning if the problems have gotten worse or not yet.

if I lose my clones, I don't really care, but I would like to diagnose and fix the problem, cause I wanted to sample these plants before I did a full grow with them. one of the sick ones is a blueberry clone, and another is an indica Early Pearl cross(very very short, and fat leaves), that at 2.5 weeks into flowering is already very coated in trichs.

They were some 6" clones when I sent em into flower, it was mostly just to see how they ended up, and to taste 3 flavors before I did a whole 16-25 plant grow on them. I think it was some flower nute burn, they haven't changed or gotten worse since I flushed them. been 36 hours now, and they were adding up the spots pretty rapidly over about a week.

I didn't want to waste 3 gallons each worth of soil on 8 6" clones

I really think it was nute burn.. I'll see if they get worse, I'm not stressed or anything.
Would to much P to soon do that to the leaves?

the sick ones vary in height from about 10" to 7", that's it... my 2 indicas didn't even bother stretching.....my NL/Haze, wich is in perfect health went from 6" to 24" like it was nothing

If you leave them in cups I doubt you will have anything to taste!

Why coulden't some 10" or so clones w/o any side growth.. just a single cola not be able to live in an 18oz cup? I'm serious, I don't see the problem. I expect 1-2 grams from it, if that. They're just something sitting there to waste my time.

That just looks like some leaves dyeing off or either some critters getting to your stash. How old is the sickest of the plants and how far into flowering are they approximately?

plants are supposed to triple in size during flowering. Without room for roots to grow, the top of the plant will stop growing. If you want the plant to produce more bud, i'd listen to old phart's advice.

i also agree with xenon that IS the worst case of rootbind i have ever seen

On container size:
I have a friend who despite being sloppy and using unconvential methods (like using oven cleaner as a flowering nute), gets the most amazing results with his plants.
He had a plant in a 6" container (the size houseplants come in) next to his back door and it grew 3' tall with a nerf football-sized bud.
AND
Last year I grew a 12' plant in a 15" x 16" pulp pot.
