1. Are you growing from seed or clones? Seeds 2. How old are your plants? 3-4 weeks 3. How tall are your plants? 21 cm & 16 cm 4. What size containers are they planted in? 20 cm x 17cm 5. What is your soil mix? Multi purpose compost with perlite 6. How often do you water and what type of water do you use? When dry to the 2nd knuckle, Tap water 7. What is the pH of your water? Seems to be in the high 7's which i have now started to correct using cider vinegar 8. What kind of fertilizer do you use and what is its NPK ratio? Not used any nutes as of yet, did try a light foiler spray of epsom salts once. 9. What kind of lights do you use and how many watts combined? (HPS, MH, fluorescent, halogen, incandescent "plant lights") 400w HPS 10. How close are your lights to the plants? 40 cm 11. What size is your grow space in square feet? 3 ft x 3 ft x 7ft 12. What is the temperature and humidity in your grow space? 75 - 85, do not know humidity for sure. 13. What is the pH of the soil? need to test soil ph, but only have a crap soil ph tester and no cash to invest right now 14. Have you noticed any insect activity in your grow space? I had mites on 2 other plants, but these seemed to have been controlled using tabacco juice and fresh water foiler feeding. 15. How much experience do you have growing? 1st time indoors, usually grow 1 plant per year on south facing balcony. Hi all, although i am keeping a journal, but this will be my first proper post here so to speak. I have been constantly reading these forums lately and especially here in the nursery as i have been running into 1 or 2 teething problems on my first grow. Reading around i have seen people with a few problems similar to these two plants i have here, but there seems to be a half and half opinion as to wether the causes are nute burns or nute deficency's. Please take a look at these pics and let me know what you think. Also is the only sure way to tell if it is burn of deficeny to re-pot the plants into fert free soil or would a flushing suffice? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I have 4 other plants and although they have had their problems they are nowhere near as stunted or bad as these 2 plants. Also these plants were kept outside for the first 2- 2 1/2 weeks. As i say i also have a Journal going on here so maybe that can shed a little more light on the matter. Thanks in advance for any help. Last edited by F3zza; 05-07-2006 at 05:01 AM..

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I believe its a lack of Nitrogen...The plant seems to be eating the lower leaves... Are you really planting in a mix of compost, and perlite...If so, you need some actual soil in yer mix... I dont recommend planting in nothing but compost. It has been way too hot..expecially for younguns.. good luck bra.

Thank you for the reply kingkong. I usually plant direct in multi-purpose compost when doing my annual plant with not any problems, but obviously this is an indoor grow so i guess it is not the same thing. I am confused though as you say this seems to be N deficency, yet also say the compost could be too hot?

The pictures display N defficiency. And, I do know that planting in pure compost, isnt recommended..Maby you could do it, if you mix it with like 75% perlite.. I dont think the compost is the issue in this case..I was just mentioning it for future refrence.. This is odd...The compost should be giving U plenty of N.... If he doesent show up...I would PM, buzzmobile...He could help for sure...

![]() | Thanks for the info SomeJaneInRI. I think i may have a good guess what it may be then KingKong. As i mentioned i tested the PH in the tap water i am using and from the chart it is way over 7. Maybe this is causing a nute lock out. Is N one of the nutes that can be locked out by high PH? Sorry if that sounds a bit silly, but as i say i am learning.

Stoney really understood the relationship of pH in growing. I think this is a great thread. http://www.gardenscure.com/420/showt...t=39591&page=3 Hope that helps, or someone can find the chart he did?? All the best, Lollie

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | hey F3zza, While you may have N deficiency, you likely are rootbound as well. Time for a transplant! It's pretty amazing to me how fast little containers get filled with roots. The rule of thumb as at least one gallon of soil per foot of plant height. My honest opinion is that you likely are deficient in both N and K as well. The spotting on the lower leaves appears to be from lack of K. ![]()

![]() | Thank you for that thread Lollie and hi to you too. Hey Xenon, I will be going to get some bigger pots and some fert free soil tomorrow and add my own nutes once i re-pot them. I was given some nutes that say they are good for hydro & soil, but unfortunately that is all you can read from the labels as they are pretty worn out so i don't think i will be using them. I have some Miracle Grow in the cupboard and will have to use that untill i have more funds to buy other nutes next week. Thank you for all the help here guys & gals, as i said in my Journal i have found this site to be the most valuable source of MJ growing info on the web.
