crap! first time iv posted in here in ages...just when i thought i was going well

last night i noticed some white flys buzzing around my plants. i gave a spray with organic pyrethrum (almost to the point of run-off). i think i might have given too much, i checked my plants today (14 hours after spraying) and they have these 'splotches' over SOME of the leaves on all the plants including new growth.

im guessing the pyrethrum is the cause of this but im not sure. if someone knows what this is please let me know.

i should also mention that this happened around the same time i introduced the plants to the HPS...i did the palm test, doesnt seem too hot. no problems in the past anyway.

1. Are you growing from seed or clones? seed

6. How often do you water and what type of water do you use? tap water which i let stand for 24hrs before using
7. What is the pH of your water? 6.5, varies
8. What kind of fertilizer do you use and what is its NPK ratio? Organix 3.5/0.6/0.6
9. What kind of lights do you use and how many watts combined? 400hps
10. How close are your lights to the plants? 14-18 inches
11. What size is your grow space in square feet? 4
12. What is the temperature and humidity in your grow space? 25c 45rh
13. What is the pH of the soil? not sure, havnt checked since i put the plants in.
14. Have you noticed any insect activity in your grow space? yes. white flys. but think i fixed that
15. How much experience do you have growing? 1 1/2 yrs. this is my 5th grow i guess.

I agree with Dave.
Maybe the lights were on when you sprayed?
Watch the new growth, it will likely be ok.
Unless it's a cooincidence, and nute burn is upon you.

Peace-

why yes they were. are you saying not to use insecticides while lights are on? never heard of this before. i hardly ever use the stuff, iv been lucky staying away from the bugs so far.

Best to spray before nighttime with most sprays.

Some require quick-dry and therefore during light.

Some target creatures which only feed during light.

Mostly, near night time is best.

Instead of the pyrethrum spray switch to a soap spray to kill the whiteflies. They'lll be back. It doesn't burn and it is very effective at killing whatever whiteflies it hits. Spraying to the point of saturation and runoff with lights on or off has never burned leaves in my garden.

Make some sticky traps to help monitor the whitefly population. Link is in my signature.

Who's that long haired freaky person over there?

Yeah, I've seen it firsthand too...that's what it does. I won't use pyrethrum really because of it...it, whenever I've seen it used, seems to cause a moderate amount of damage when applied...

WAIT WAIT WAIT, you mean the tiny water droplets that form on the leaf surface doesnt concentrate the light and burn right thru the leaf like a laser?

ok i grabbed a roll of sticky tape, set camera to 8mp super macro and went hunting.

...and i have now found two different types of critter.

this is the most prevelent of the two. these are the ones which i thought were white fly..anyone else?

and this bastard! found him with a few of his mates, laughing it up! anyone? they seem to just scamper across the surface of the soil doing nothing.

if anyone has a good link for identifying these critters, that would be great...or if anyone can confirm what these are? i live in SE australia if that makes any difference.
