my theory on hermies
permalink

note: This is only from my past experience. There are many scenerios, this just touches on one.

So I ended up with 2 females out of 8 !!! then 2 weeks after determining their sex, some male "balls" started growing on one of them. So I decided not to chop it down, just do some sex changing. My grow environment does not have an oscillating fan, so I figured if I missed a few male flowers they would only pollinate straight downwards on the female flowers. I was right. After I chopped off all the balls I could find I let them grow. I never saw another male flower again. (BTW it took me like 3 hours to pick every last male flower off, cuz they were hiding). Anyways, I ended up with 8 seeds! No big deal. 8 seeds... I will take it.

The reason for my hermies was that the plants were not getting COMPLETE DARKNESS for 12 hours. SO after the balls started growing I had to make some cardboard ducts for my intake/exhaust fans...

I am now the proud owner of 7ounces and 8 seeds.

cheers

I found my first hermie today or at least so I thought. I had not found any pics of hermies until today. Why didn't I look in the growth forum before? Or did I?

Anyway I tried to take some pics of IT with my web cam but no real luck being able to see anything. Instead I put the two branches I saved for ID directly on my scanner.

Just want to verify IT was a hermie and I did the right thing by chopping her down.

definite herm buzz, bummer. did u have any others in your grow room? if u did then pollen is likely to have spread everywhere, noticed the flowers had opened. i had 3 out of 12 girls turn herm on me, im an outdoor grower. i tried to keep on top of them, pull the balls off before they opened. they seemed to have turned out alright. im gonna harvest my herm's tomorrow. there is some nice buds on em with only a couple of nugs with seeds in em. i dont know if it was strain related (was a mix of bagseed) but the herms have all finished before the other girls.? maybe there was some seed in a bag of bud i got that was from a herm and this is the end result? anyway theres some nice buddage to be had in a couple of weeks, not alot but enough. ill post some pics in the next couple of days.

Angry Hoping I got to IT in time......
permalink

I have 2 other ladies in the box. One is just finishing week 6 of flower and the second is 2 weeks behind her.

I'm hoping they didn't get a chance to pollinate. That was the only set of pods that had opened and I didn't see any actual pollen powder yet.

I've been watching them everyday but only just yesterday noticed the one had turned hermie. The first pods I noticed where right on the stem at an internode. I thought they looked like strange preflowers and after closer examination thought "Oh NO.....she turned hermie"

Next step was to get the cutters. IT came down within minutes of my discovery. Fingers crossed that my ladies were not violated but only exposed to a flasher.

fingers crossed that the it didnt spread 'the word'. just for interest's sake, in one of my spots (i have planted in groups of 2 or 3) the bud closest to my hermie has seeds but the rest of the girls goods is yet to show seeds (i guess in a closed environment it might be a bit different). guess we will see very soon.

Hello again
I have 2 plants that are about 7 to8 inches high. Should I "top" them???? iS IT TOO SOON?? They are under lights for 12 to 15 hours a day. They look really great and green and very strong. I plan on putting them outside in pots about mid May. I am on Vancouver Island (mid island) in a seniors condo. Should be interesting!!
