Preflower info ----> TRUTH

Although you can sex the plant at anytime by changing the light cycle the TRUTH is that MOST strains will show you their sex when they are sexually mature and are ready to be put into full bloom. By waiting until the plant is fully sexually mature before changing the light cycle you will get bigger better buds as the plant is ready to reproduce. It is also good to note that not all female preflowers will have the two raised hairs and coud be virtually indestinguishable from a male. The magnification will help to reduce the possibility of needlessly killing a female. Hope this helps all.

Good Luck and Good Grow

BTW The original post on this was very informative and great to see.

Hey Brindie, those pics are sweet, I now know my plants look basically the same as yours, no balls You've given me a reason to go inside and borrow the Intel microscope off my sister lol. I never thought of using it for that.

Peace,
PSi

WOOHOO! I sexed my first male this morning thanks to these pics. Question, just because I have the balls on a stick now (1 male so far), have my girls been violated?

hey HydroponicDancr

glad the pics are helping! just too bad she's a he

but probably not, your girlz should be ok, it takes a couple of weeks for the males to develop, then the sacs burst and spread around the pollen. THEN you've got a problem...

so best thing to do, if you don't want to propogate your plants, is to hack him down, no sense in growing him much further and taking a chance. that should give your reamining girlz more light and more space to grow...

good luck!

Thumbs up Hey HempSeed

Thanks for the thread.

And you're right. Once you finally see the preflowers and the pistils sticking out, it just clicks: "Oh, that's what a preflower looks like!"

Then identifying the balls is a snap!!

Thanks again, I couldn't have seen them w/o this thread!!

lightman012 is beginning to sprout.

Hi Everyone. I logged on to ask this same question thats being presented here. Thanks for all the info...this is great. I ordered my first indoor light and hydro setup today, can't wait to get stated. Any suggestions for a first time indoor grower?
Take care.

actually, i think you tend to develop the ability to sex using preflowers with just the naked eye after a bit of practice. i simply use the edge of my light (it's extremely bright). you can see the "shine" on the white hairs, which of course is what you're looking for.

it's important to watch the plant even after you see a couple of hairs. keep checking the lower branches for herm tendencies. i had two sexed females herm on me in this last batch. all i have to see is one of those little balls and i bring out the axe (well, in my case, i use an extremely sharp knife )

i veg on a 20/4 light cycle, and almost always, i have them sexed before i even start 12/12. and i never have problems with rouge pollen

however, the pics here are very cool, and have been a lot of fun to look at!
