i have a 430w hps , u can find the specs of my current grow in my soil GJ. trhe problem is directly under the hps the temps range from 84-93 ?/ and the air above the light is a steady 84 F 32%?? why is it hotter down there , it never has been in my previous grows.. ventilation is a issue correct ?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | That would be my guess, try just putting a small fan blowing ditectly on or slightly below the light. that should fix the problem. investing in a cooltube or an air cooled hood is sometimes a good investment, but for only 430w it isn't really necessary. If you look in grow journal link in my sig, it shows my air cooled hood in my closet with a fan (80 cfm I'd guess) blowing on the glass and top of my plants. The temps might vary a degree between the ambient temp and the temp directly below the light. It allows me to keep the plants closer, increasing my lumens too. Best of luck Last edited by JTShakes; 05-10-2007 at 08:30 PM..

![]() ![]() | thanx for the info !!! the situation: 430w hps 50cfm fan blowing air into the room from a crack beneath the door one of those family size wind type fans is outside the door , aimed up blowing air into the room from a hole i made in the roof and an unknown cfm little fan currently acting as the exaust , it then goes out a 4" piece of ducting approx. 20 inches long and just blows onto the ground maybe if i unbend the vent tube to decrease backpressure it will lower temps a bit ? ![]() ![]() | Yeah if you measure directly under the light then your thermometer is heating up from radiant heat from the bulb and it will be artificially high. My thermometer came with a little probe and I just set it right under a fan leaf under the light. I would say 84 under the light with no shade is ok. anything higher and I wouild recommend a cool tube or air cooled hood. I would recommend either of those anyway because you could get your plants closer to the light and get more light on them.

![]() ![]() | ty but getting a AC hood , or buildinga DIY tube is strenuous , and dont i need more ventilation / seperate vent vans . intake fans . room fan to move the air around ? or does the hood eliminate intake?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The hood wont eliminate the need for fresh air intake, seeing as your plants do need to breathe But it can be done with only one large fan to take care of the intake/hood/exhaust. Check out my closet in my sig to see how I did it. It works great and one fan does the trick, I just have one extra smaller fan in there to circulate the air.I drew something up in paint to help explain the pictures of the closet.
