Question I Need Help! My Yields are Small
permalink

Hi, Im hoping that someone can help me Increase my Yields if possible.

OK, Were do i Start,

All my plants are being Grown in the attic, the temperature in the attic changes throughout the day,
the heat in the house rises to the top of the house making it hot up there, especially on hot sunny days,
the temperature can also drop to as low as 40/50 degrees fahrenheit, Mainly at night when it gets cold and the draft creeps in through the outer edges of the roof.
So what im really trying to say is, that its dam hard keeping temperature at 65/80 when the lights are on
and getting it to drop 10/15 percent when lights go off. Does this have a big effect on the size of the yield?

Lights: I have 1 250w hps lamp, 1 5foot twin tube fluorescent light, each tube holds 58w, and 1 125w envirolite grow lamp with a blue spectrum,

I have the 250 hps lamp screened of with black/white sheeting, as you can probley see from the pictures below, the fluorescent twin tubes are in a grow tent that i sorta constructed, and the 125 envirolite i only got a few days ago, just gets moved around in different places( don't know what to do with it yet) I need to know if i can get better use out of the lights? am i not using them right?

Fertilizers: The Ferts i am using atm are, all purpose Miracle Gro NPK 24/8/16, Canna PK 13/14, Terra Vega 14/6/17, Terra Flores 2/2/4, and Garden fertilizer Granules 15/7/15, are all or any of these ferts any good and can someone please tell me which ones i should be getting?

I have also 1 30cm electric fan concently on and a small computer fan i wired together and placed in the grow tent, i don't have any fan extractors of any sort, nor have i any vaporizers for the smell (im on a budget)

Last year i managed to grow 2 Plants in the attic with using nothing only my 250w hps lamp and no reflective sheeting, very little ferts and a cold winter to deal with it let alone it being my first time growing, i also had the problem of having to scare away the spiders and bugs ,but with all the problems from last year i somehow was able to rescue 4 little baby clones, and watch grow up into 4 sexy looking ladies, and who of which have now also producded 8 more young girls that are being keeped in the grow tent along with them in the grow tent are 2 young california indica's and 2 potting trays of mixed seeds m/f of lowryders in there to, In the box on the floor next to the 4 large ladies are 4 male and 1 female lowryders that are (ihope) going to rape her and give me lots more seeds to play with , Can anyone tell me is it possible to pollinate one of my northern lights with a male lowryder? and if so what would be the outcome? if you could also anwser any of the other questions you would be doing me a hugh favour, if you could give me any input on what i could do to increase my yields that would be great!
Much Appreciated

i think the #1 thing that affects yield is light....get more!

2nd - strain....

pi is right tho - stabilize the environmental conditions...are you exchanging air in there? fresh air is very important and often overlooked as well...

Thanks for your replys dude's keep'em coming

The air supply in the attic is minimal if any at all, a very small slow draft of fresh air comes in from the outer parts of the roof, apart from that and the fan being on, that is all the air supply i have. I would take one of the roof tiles of the roof but my girl would kick me out of the house, and thats the last thing i need, Im hoping to get a new strain after this harvest, or atleast experimenting on pollinating the northern lights with the lowryders, but thats a whole new topic.

Yes controling the temps and getting more light will help with the yeilds.
Try runnibg your lights on during the cooler periods.
Go ahead and try the lowrider nl cross, Im curious too what you will get.

Your grow area looks too large for the amount of light you are using and unstable/high temps will lead to fluffy buds. Alot of light is being wasted by the way everything is set up, I'd suggest building some sort of cabinet.

I agree about the lighting totally. I dont think you need to worry about the plants temp-wise, unless its getting too hot up there. Remember, most plants that are growing outside this time of year are going through the same temp swings. Im in northern MN and my outdoor girls are looking gorgeous. Good growing!

I completely agree with the gang. You need to get better light, then control the temps and ventilation. Even if it's a couple fans pulling in fresh cooler air and an exhaust fan pushing air out of one of the eave vents.

good luck

seemorebuds---I'd suggest more lighting of course, but you also want to look into better venting or adding co2 enrichment to help you out. It sounds like you don't have adequate venting into the room, which will make it so the plants aren't getting the co2 that they need and could use.

Both of those will help in bud production without going into flower enhancers and what all nutes you should be using. IMO

Good luck on getting some rock hard buds to drool over. It's possible.

Happy Improvements to your grow.

I Agree with everyone on lighting, thats #1. How much space are you using for your plants? It looks like a big area, and some big plants. Optimum lighting is 50W per square foot. So take that into consideration. You probably have enough room for a 600W or 1000W HPS. With that kind of lighting you would definatly want more air flow.
