| You must prune the terminal ends of new growth to make a plant bushy. However if you are already in the flowering cycle you should not prune in this way. Every bud on every branch is supported by the plant. If the branches are small and scrawny you are limited to the numbe of large buds the plant can support. Smaller scrawny buds can be eliminated very early so the plant can focus its efforts on the large budding sites. If you concentrate on the terminal budding sites you will get the biggest buds. The plants shade leaves should be trimmed in such a way so as to provide more light to the large buds. If the plants are supported by a large root system, you can prune early and get better recovery. | ||

Also, is this the best/only way to keep the plant's height to a minimum? Thanks for your help.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I am not sure what you are asking about leaves. I am talking about removing terminal growth. I only do this once and I do it early. I keep side branch growth to what I think the plant will fully support. If you remove too much terminal growth prior to bud onset you will hurt the harvest. You will get the largest buds on the oldest and largest terminal growth. If you keep pinching back to keep the plant short the terminal bud growth sites will be small and late. If you get this far ... Once the plant buds develope I remove large leaves at will to allow the bud to get as much sun as possible.

| You can also limit the height of a plant by tying a string around the top of the plant and tying the other end to a lower part of the main stem. Forcing the top to bend over 90 degrees and face downward. Bend it slowly over a matter of days so that it doesn't just break off or die. Also don't use such a low gauge of string that it cuts into the plant. | ||

![]() | no...its called LST, or training. and is less stressful than just chopping up your plant. with LST you can almost shape your plant how you want it..as long as you do it very slowly. do a search on it.

I've heard pruning is bad unless needed to get airflow into the buds. I hear the buds themselves arent the main light absorbers, so you shouldn't trim the leaves. LST works great...lotsa good threads on it here
