alright everyone i have a question for all you gurus of 10 lbs of crap in a 3 lbs bag. i need a solution for 1 or 2 plants, the "pot" is 7x16 and lets say no more than 4 inches deep. thats just under 2 gallons of capacity. should i: a) just use soil b) go hydro c) go aero. i am familiar with soil and hydro grows. never done aero and never done anything this small. in my head i cant think of any sort of hydro or aero system that fits my 4" deep regulation. basically im going to scrog a single plant in this tiny space and hope for the best. my gut tells me dirt, but i dont know how the roots will like growing out instead of down. but then again ive always had good luck with my super pos cake pan bubble cloner. im open to any and all ideas, so if anyone has plans for a shallow dwc lets hear it! or anything else for that matter. | ||

| kawgomoo My opinion will be, Hydro. The roots will find their way much easier and populate any size or type of pot. Shallow pots with soil dry way too fast and you'll run in to problems with over or under watering the plant. Just my

| well its a tiny space, i dont really see the roots over growing 2 gallons of soil. but alas i realize hydro would be a good route to take, i just cant come up with any hydro systems that would work well being only 4 inches deep. the problem i foresee with such a small res is ec and ph swing. i can see a plant easily using a gallon a day... and thats over half the res. | ||

| Take a look at my gj in my sig. I've gotten away with 6 quart DWC all the way up to 3 weeks of veg. If you're so limited on space you'll need to flower really early and a plant size wouldn't drink up much even during flower.

| i grow in a shallow pond culture setup, in about 1.5 inches of water in a shallow tray...utilizing an external reservoir. Much larger scale than your talking about but it could be modified for a smaller cabinet. Actually there was a guy on here who did use the spc in a cabinet, check out his grows; his name was snwbrder.... Heres a link to the system I'm using https://www.gardenscure.com/420/hydr...llow-pond.html Kind of a hybrid between NFT and DWC couple minor problems with it though many of which are common for hydroponics though: 1) water trickling noise is loud 2) need a place to put an external reservoir 3) controlling reservoir temperatures is very important 4) rockwool/rapid rooters arn't well suited for the SPC system; need to use a mediumless cloning method. 5) leaks happen Soil would be a lot easier  but if that hasn't scared you off nothing will. I would choose hydro personaly... hydro is the ticket for maximizing your production in small spaces.. Whatever you do stay away from aero.

| yeah aero has been all but ruled out.. too much space, too many problems. this is a venture into the feasibility of the super compact grow. external res aint gonna cut it. i might be able to stuff a res in the cabinet but eh, we will see. peltier coolers can be used to keep solution cool if need be. ive grown both hydro and soil.. i honestly prefer soil. great results, less b.s. i admit it. im lazy. anything other than a dish of water with an air stone in it is not going to fit in my situation. i was thinking hempy bucket but my setup is too shallow, so it would end up being dwc anyways. we shall see... i will try several setups inthis system if the first one proves to be at all viable. only time will tell. | ||

| Not that it necessarily fits your need, but I wouldn't write off an external rez due to space. An external rez means you can have a tiny rez the plant sits in and feed in plumbing through your passive intake of the cab.

| teeny... 7wx17lx20h its just an expirement i know its basically fruitless, but i just wonder the real potential of micro grows. ive always seen them started and never finished. but i figure since i have large scale experience it will be easier for me than most people just trying to wing it with a tiny grow. | ||
