What is this?

So this is a clone that never took off and I puller her today to find this growth. It feels like raw cauliflower but has a glossy texture to it. I can easily separate if from the stem, and it looks and smells healthy. Any ideas? The black part in the pics is just the unhealthy (original width) stem.

Hey there, pretty strange looking I must say, but not really. It would actually help to know what method and or medium you are using to clone.

If it was in soil, id imagine it is probably swelling there and thats usually what my clones somewhat form when new roots appear. It looks like you should give it a bit longer and you should see some roots. This is my opinion tho, and I actually clone using a rubbermaid container, an air stone + pump and a 42w CFL and voila, roots in 7-8 days!

just my

Keep it green!

It's rooting in peat. My clones always take 2-3 weeks to root. They rarely die but always take a long time. It never bothered me much actually. It works out pretty well have 2 new clones root while their moms are a month away from the chop. Otherwise it's allot of veg time. Putting aside advantages of it I'm clearly doing something wrong if they take so long.

BOT
Other partially rooted clones look nothing like this at the base. They shoot roots directly from the stem and it doesn't fatten up until the roots get dense. Conditions for this girl were identical to every other in the batch.

IMO Its fugues, i had that happen once before, i just peeled it off but it had already eaten the root to the point that it died, My problem was a combo of excessive water and light.

Willie's Wonder is starting to vegetate.

I've seen that many times. I don't know what causes it. I always thought it was the process of rooting. It could be caused by too much rooting hormone. They will root the same as the rest so I just leave them be.

That growth is called a callous. It forms first and then roots emerge.

That would make allot of sense. I generally load the rooting hormone on them and don't usually shake em off. It does look gross but it's not slimy or anything. it smells like healthy roots. And no, its definitely not a cocoon. Thanks everybody
