as CP stated, you actually need even more lumens for flowering! a lot more indeed.. reason being is because your plant needs as much energy (which lumens provide extra energy) in order to produce those nice buds we all hope for.. I'm really baked at the current moment so I'm probably going to be re-corrected by somebody with a more technical term or whatever... but when flowering, the plant uses/needs more nutes and light (lumens)..

by exposed surfaces, i was referring to the outside of the jiffy pots; which i assumed were porous.

are the roots supposed to grow out the sides?

the little pots still seem a bit wet.

i think things will pick up the way you have it now. much airier and brighter, well done. best wishes nigel

The roots do grow through the peat pot. I've only seen them grow through the bottom, but I'd assume they can grow through the sides too (If not, I'm in trouble!).

I picked up some buds and a more mature clone and the budtender told me that I should definitly keep my lights on 18/4. He said that they've been on that cycle in the dispenserary, so when I took 'em home and put them under 24/0 it stressed them the f*ck out.

So I've now got the stronger ones under 200w of cfl (under $10 total!) and the weak ones are under one 75w cfl tube (the $10 wal mart one I started out with). All lights are on 18/4.

Out of the 9 clones, 4 will definitly survive, two are kinda iffy, and the last 3 are most likely going to die. I'll post up again in here when the time comes.

Yeah home depot. I got the exact same items that you posted up. The pieces were actually closer to $3 each, but its still better and cheaper than those crappy walmart lights (I've returned 2 of them and hopefully I'll be able to return another if I can find the packaging).

I bought the daylight bulbs. They are supposed to emit 100w each, but only use the electricity of a 26w.

And THANK YOU for the heads up about using warm or soft lights for flowering. I've never heard of that before, and I'm sure it will be a beneficial mental note later on.

if the sides of the peat pots are dry the roots cannot grow out? Guess they dissolve when put into soil/ until you pot up. maybe sitting peat pot inside an empty plastic pot would insulate sides?

peat is very acidic so pH might be an issue over time.

shock from changing light schedule makes sense. You might try trimming a bit of the worst damaged leaves, to lighten the load on roots.

potting them minus peat pot in new soil mix an option?

Hang in there, best wishes nigel

For fluorescent lighting, you want to go by the amount of electricity used in determining the right amount of light. NOT the incandescent equivalent output. or BETTER yet go by the number of lumens. So when you explain how they "emit 100w each" that is not the most accurate way to determine if you have enough lighting. The more accurate way is to go by the 26w. So for a single square foot you would want 2 of those lights. For a 2 square foot area you would want 4 of those lights. etc etc...

Yes you can get away with using less light, but your growth won't be as vigorous. Also 50w per sq. foot is kind of the recommended minimum.

My little ph meter says the ph is about 7.2 What should I be aiming for? I really don't want to dig up and repot my plants without the peat pots, but I'll do it if I must in time.

Do you have any other recomendations on how to lower ph other than removing peat pots?

And wow, I'd need a hell of a lot of those 27w cfl's to get decent lighting. The recomended 50w per square foot is for flowering right? I hope I can pull this off and get by with less than that for vegging.

I hope to get my cab built up tomorow. And I'm thinking of just painting the interior white instead of using the mylar. I was told today that mylar is NOT ideal in hot weather, and its getting hotter and hotter every day. Should I use flat white or gloss white?

with big rooms id suggest an hps. screw the cfl's. they create just as much heat as a small hps would.

i dont trust soil ph meters. at all.

a good way to test soil ph is mix some soil with DISTILLED water. the water will take up the ph of the soil. drain out the water, and test that.

most dry nutrients can lower the ph. bone/blood meal, guanos... or you could just use a water ph of 6.0. that will bring it down slowly.

i think pot does best at 5.8-6.4...but thats just my opinion.
