The reason you has probs is because you tried to transplant with wet soil in the old container that is holding the rootmass.. I ALWAYS transplant when the soil is VERY DRY.. This is really important IMHO as it helps keep the rootmass intact when you try to move it / pull it our etc..

I cant really see the container that well, but im assuming it is a soda bottle or something similiar with an odd shape?.
Odd, Im getting mixed answers. I started a transplanting thread about a week ago to start gathering info on the correct transplanting procedure. One guy insisted to water before.

http://www.gardenscure.com/420/plant...-when-how.html

The container is actually a 20oz tupperware cup/container. They were the only thing I had around, and didnt think that it would be a problem getting them out of those containers later on. Cutting is not an option, the containers are pretty dense thick plastic.

Like I said before, when I tried to turn one upside down yesterday and litle tap the bottom, almost 1/2 the dirt crumbled out. I had to rush and put some fresh soil back in. Luckily today she is still alright. I just dont want to have to do that 4 times if the soil is gonna crumble out like that, unless its okay that happens? As long as I get the small root ball out of at the bottom and get it into the new soil quickly, will it be alright? Should I pack the soil down really good before hand? This whole transplanting thing is turning into a pain because of the containers I used, damnit.

Im still a bit confused and worried, so hopefully I can get some more solid answers with the information provided on my situation. I guess the only way to learn is from mistakes...

Thanks for all the help.

Its probably a lot to do with personal preference. I like the soil moderately dry. I don't have a very steady hand, and I can water the plant very thoroughly after the transplant. I don't know if it really makes all that much difference, but I like a dry transplant.

i like to really let them dry out. as in soil compress a bit together. i love being able to put my fingers at the base of the stem and just pull it out without problems. slides right out...

the more water in your soil, the more wieght the roots will have to support once its out of the pot.

ive transplanted wet soil and had the bottom half of the rootball fall off from too much weight. never had a problem doing it while dry.

not too mention your supost to really flood the soil after trasnplant to get rid of large air pockets.

I used to grow on my back deck and when my cat went out with me she would lay around the stalk of the plant. She never messed with it, but I would like to think she was protecting my plant.

She would however try to eat my weed, I had to find nice hiding spots for it.

I always transplant with wet soil but there are reasons why it should be done dry, if done dry then the roots need water and when you water in the new container the roots will dig deep to find it helping it get situated in its new home.

why don't you people with cats grow catnip, too. it would distract your "pussy" and he'd have his own stash of sweet homegrown.

Do not pause between removing the nail/driver or w/e from the heat source and putting the holes as it will cool down rapidly .. Go right from the heat to the container.
Decent or better quality tools are tempered steel, Do Not heat them unless you want to ruin them. Tempering is heating steel to a certain temperature then dunking it in water to cool immediately. If you later reheat the steel and let it air cool, it could likely destroy the temper and make your screwdriver's steel softer or more brittle than it was originally. A butane lighter might not heat it enough to mess up the tempering, but I wouldn't take the chance. Why ruin a good tool? Or even a cheap one?

Use a nail if you want to heat something to poke holes with. Personally, I just use my power drill with an old bit that has been pretty much used up.
