ebb n gro vs ebb n flow

ive been ebb n flowing and i like it but i have been considering switching to the ebb n gro

reason

so much less water needed, bigger plants and less cloning = less work- ok call me lazy

i do have some question - as the system grows (the ebb n gro) by adding more pots does the 55 gallon drun res keep up with water needs

another words

is the 55 gallons enough water for a system of 40 plants?
it my guess is less water might cause greater change in res nutes/ph in short periods of time = not being able to leave res un-attended for any length of time while out of town

well i bought a ebb and flow after great consideration.... the guy at the hydro shop and i talked about it like 6 or 7 times i was in there...... i read alot of reports that the buckets if not hooked up properly can leak.... and alot dont fit correctly for one reason or another... i figured the e&f would be practically stoner proof and easy to use.... another thing was size of number of plants... buckets are for medium to big plants.... e&f can do any size plants your really only limited by you space. if you looking for yeild, then big plants are the way to go. i guess alot of times it comes down to personal preference..... PEACE

Definitely, but flood times may need to be upped to 30 min instead of 15.

Regarding the PH fluctuation, I really don't know from experience as I only have 12 plants per res, but my guess would be that it would be fine during veg or the 1st 2-3 weeks of flower, but after that you'd need to watch it every few days.

Check out Emj's grows, he uses two ebb n gro systems I think, 48 plants each, I'm sure he has some good advise also.

thanks for input - i guess your right = personal preference

1 thing though - big plants dont actually = more yeild
yu could have 1 med/large plant in a 2ft x 2ft area or 16 small plants in the same area and end up with same yeild

i already have 4x8 tray for ebb n flow

cant gett passed the water thing

seems like 100+ gallons in ebb n flow vs 55 gallons for 40 large plants , wouldnt the ebb n flow require less res changes since wter volume is so high

if the 55 gln res needed changing 1x per week the 115gln res should last atleast 2 weeks b4 change is needed?

im not saying this as a statement but more as a question

i realize ebb n flow requires more water primarily cuz it takes so much to fill the tray to proper level - but wouldnt the excess water last longer also

i guess im questioning the need to change res 1x per week

if the ebb n flow only needed to be changed every 2 weeks and the ebb n grow 1x per week min. then you would realy use equal amount of water in the end but less work on the ebb n flow

i suppose it would cost more to chill and require bigger air pump for bigger res

im just thinking out loud - quick smack me b4 i get lost in my thoughts
