So this is my first real grow, and I think I might have run in to an issue :/. The first issue is I have rooted my clones into 6" rockwool cubes, and without growing more than an inch from their original height they have already rooted through to the bottom of the cubes, and I have nowhere for the roots to go! I was expecting them to break through the bottom once they were ready to be transferred to my aeroponic system but it seems they are a little over eager, what should I do? They still have at least 2 feet to grow before I even consider transferring them to the system but the roots are hauling ass outta there. The other issue is the rockwool is starting to turn black on top, is this something I need to worry about? Thanks for any help you can offer

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | id suggest getting perlite and placing your cubes on it. maybe like a 6 inch layer. the roots will grow into this, and when its ready for thier home, the roots will come off easily. plus perlite is clean so getting a couple bits in your water shouldnt hurt. im not a hydro guy, so there may be easier ways to do this. but ive had clones roots grow deep into perlite, and pop out just fine. as for the black stuff, try placing something over the cube. such as perlite again, or even cut something like cardboard to fit over. it could be mold developing. block the light, it should stop.

You didn't really expect for the plants to grow 2' before the roots start showing out of 6" cube of RW. I'll suggest transplanting them in to hydroton rocks or as SEED mentioned perlite and veg them until they get to your preferred size. From what I understand the plants are in another room other than the one the aero set up is.

![]() | So I transferred my clones into what has amounted to my humidity dome filled with about 8 inches of the clay marbles I was going to use in the hydro system. Just stuck them right on top of all the rocks, think this will work?

![]() | Im not exactly sure what the name is of the system, I think its just aeroponic. I have 12 buckets which are placed in 12 holes that are in a piece of wood that suspends them above a 50 gal reservoir that has sprinklers in the bottom, which spray the roots throughout the day. The hydroton rocks are what go in those buckets. I bought this huge system and everything that came with it super cheap off a friend of mine, so Im still learning about all the equipment. But as of right now I have my rockwool cubes on top of the rocks and the rocks are filled to the top of my upside down humidity dome. I will be hand watering them but I get the feeling this wont be enough, should I just go with perlite instead?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Ok, I think I know what you got. What you need right now is to create a system compatible to your aero set up, for the veg room. You can veg those plants right in the buckets that you have in the aero system just don't run the res, hand water them for now but let them grow in the rocks. When they're big enough connect the res to the system, fill it and go 12/12. What you really need to think though for future grows will be to have a veg room and a flowering room. You can have a 7" tall 3' x 3' e&f tub with out the res and veg 15 plants in there watering them by hand in 5" pots with hydroton and take them to the aero when grown. ![]() ps: you know, you trying to drive a race car with out any driving experience, right? ![]() Read some journals, you need to get a principal idea of the growth steps, but have no fear, many are watching.
