yes..i concur. i just harvested and revegged and i used the biggest pots ive used so far, much bigger than usually, these were about oh 15l 20l pots. *3.7l to a g*

and every plant *different strains* had used up every inch of those pots. with ease and just finished giving me the biggest yield ive ever had.

the reveggers went straight into oh about 35% bigger potst

hmm, someone said the other day *some old hand even* that the roots dont grow in flowering.

but i tell ya, ive always transplanted at the start and always at harvest, Whatever space ive given the roots, theyve taken it completely in 95% of cases.

thanks for all the responses!! and all of the additional tangent information!!! i think i'm going to go with 5 gallon containers - buckets - now, should i put perlite at the bottom? or drill holes in the bottom and keep them in a giant tupperware or something so they can have good drainage?!

its an awesome time right now enjoying my first grow all my plants are getting to be a good size both indoors and out - its so exciting and i even have 1 that began flowering a week ago!!! BEST new hobby EVER!! i can't wait for autumn to come!!! to reap the benefits of my tender work thus far!

Sounds like your growing in soil. Some perlite at the bottom may help it drain better and dry out more evenly, but would'nt say it's needed. I mean if you have a bunch go for it, but don't think you need to run out and buy some.

Good luck, growing can become quite addictive

Those sizes just seem small to me. I guess it just depends how big you want your plants really. I like to aim for 1-2 gallons of soil per foot of plant.

Like your sig. by the way.
Well it's like this....I use a 4x4x4 Grow Cab with 2 x 600w digi ballasts that I've built over here Kotton Mouf Kweens Cab

My theory rests solely on use of the space from the bottom of the light to the top of the soil. Let's say for the sake of discussion there's a total of 1 foot of useable area for the plants taken due to the Cooltube size with the hangers from the ceiling of the cab along with the height of the pot size used.

I do mildly train most plants but not much because of the amount of plants stuffed into this cab when growing. The square shaped pots also assist me stuffing plants inside when vegging and in flower.

With a solid organic soil, I try to keep a healthy root zone...(just my theory) so far so good. Thus the roots should be able to use plenty of nutes, ferts and additives. The smaller pots dry faster and the plants usually have a deep drench feeding at whatever strength they've reached almost every 3 days. When in flower, it's feed every other day after a small watering between.

...and what you stated is 100% correct and along with my thinking....

How big do I want my plants....plus the fact a larger root zone makes the plant happy and free ...IF your space allows for larger plants.
I have fun with the 6 inch pots in veg and the 9 inch pots in flower; also with 1200w during veg or flower I have a good saturation of light thanks to the many suggestions of adding a second 600w digi light.

I hope this all over the board answer helps and makes sense in what "I" do.....

...and thanks for the compliment on the sig.
Someone here made it and I've not changed it in years. I Love it !!

I also use FFOF but after Tripps's great soil study I am beginning to mix it with pro mix or some sunshine mix (about 60% FFOF 20% pro mix 20% perlite or so) to make it last longer.

I clone in 16 oz. keg cups then into 1 gallon then in 3 gallon for about 3 days before I switch the lights to 12/12.

I also use containers that have holes in the bottom, so yes, drill some if they don't have any. For drainage I use hydroton expanded clay balls in the bottom of the container, enough to cover the drain holes.

They help with drainage. The roots like to grow into them. And I find having the balls on the bottom helps the plant release easier during transplant.

I reuse my soil once if I don't have an outdoor use for it. And I clean and reuse my hydroton all the time.

Good luck and happy growing.

if you buy FFOF, theres really no need to spend the money on promix, you can use any source of peat to stretch it out. promix is 4x the cost of peat made by the same company. FFOF already has all the good shit in it you will need.

I have found pot size really depends on how long you veg. If you dont veg the plant long enough to let the roots explore the pot, it wont matter how big the pot is.

i try and veg at least a week or two in my final pot size before flipping the switch...of i find when i harvest i have like a 2 gallon rootball swimming in the middle of my 5gallon bucket. which really pisses me off...cause soil aint cheap!

right now im in the process of running smaller and smaller pots, as my system is already set in stone. i will run smaller pots until i see it negatively effect yield. then i will stick with the smallest one i can with good results....

wasting soil sucks, but getting rid of soil is dangerous and a pain. so the less waste, the better. esp if the waste really is just waste..soil that never even saw roots.
