PLans for first grow
permalink

hey guys.

im planning on starting my first grow tomorrow. I have some bag seeds right now but im planning on buying some feminized white widow because i heard it was a relatively easy grow for beginners and i can expect a decent yield.

i have 1 400w hps lamp and im going to veg under a 400 w MH. i plan on using the hempy method with a medium of 60/40 perlite/vermiculite. my grow space is 6 x 5.5 ft. my question is how many plants do you think i should try and grow at once under the 400w HPS?

also, if anyone has any good strains that typically are not too difficult for beginners please let me know. i prefer sativa strains but of course i like all MJ so any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Hi majorhops,

I think as a rule of thumb you should be trying to achieve about 50-75w per sq.ft, which leads me to believe your light may be too small for the space and vice versa.

6 x 5.5ft = 33sq.ft. 400w / 33sq.ft = 12w per sq.ft.

Have a look at this thread from last week...smokey da bare explains how he uses his 400w HPS in a 2 x 4ft space.

Are you planning on having a veg and flower area, or will you just swap the lights in the same area for different cycles?

Spent about one hundred dollars and bought feminized WW from a favored seed bank frequently mentioned here, only two of ten sprouted at germination, and both proved to be male.

Tell us a bit more of your plans, The 400W will be fine for 4 plants,
You said you are going with 40 % vermiculite, about 20% works best IMHighO

i would buy some regular white widow seeds and just cull the males. i've read that the process by which one gets feminized seeds guarantees the females are actually slight hermaphrodites.
