Pot Size, Same Gallons, Height vs Width.

If 2 pots are the same gallons, but 1 is shorter than the other and more spread out, do they grow the same effectivly?

Meaning when the roots hit the bottom of the pot will they go to the side?

Container I'm thinking of growing low ryder in is 16 inches tall. 2 gallon pot being 8 inches tall leaves 5 inches for plant growth since I must have room to have the light overtop of the plant.

If I had a pot that was more wide then it is tall... say a pot that is 4 inches tall but still 2 gallons that would give extra room for plant growth. Would this work or would a shallow but wide pot not be good?

Yeah it just recently occurred to me I could tie the plant to the side so it doesn't hit the top of container and gets more light.

Hmm.. reading up more on the strain I'm trying to grow..

I picked Lowryder 2 for it's small height.... but it advises against any LST on it. Which may be a problem.

What would happen if the plant kept growing and hit the roof of container?

Edit I might try it, I don't see how it would hender the yield. I'll have a light on the side shining directly on the leaves that will be bent to the angle and another light hovering over the plant.

Good evening,

I've had the same questions (though not posted) about container sizes and have always used taller 5 gallon container until recently when I decided to use a 5 gallon short nursery container which will allow the tap root a good foot or so but, give more room to lateral root growth which would provide better footing for a larger plant with a larger canopy. If allowed to grow into that size container.
Since I train alot using the LST method and Blueberry is my favorite training subject the shorter version container has most definitely shown potential as far as canopy size rather than overall height.
The 5 gallon tall containers I used before grew some really nice 4 and 5 foot Christmas tree looking plants i'm trying to stay away from that height factor and sticking more to wide Bonsai that produce tons of smaller flower.

Have a Great night
