Check your local stores for free containers!

Just thought I'd share this since it's the right time of year and you may luck out like me.

I was running some errands today and stopped at the local Kmart to check the lawn and garden dept for closeouts. Most stores are already putting the holiday decorations in those areas, so it made sense to see what I could find.

I didn't even make it inside. As I walked through the lot I noticed they still had lots of flowers left on display out front. I was taking a look at some, noticing the $2.99 "fall special" tags on some dead looking whaddayacallem plants. While I was marveling that they were still trying to sell these mostly dead plants, two employees started putting some of the stuff on pallets. I asked if they were taking them down for good, the obvious answer being yes.

I asked what they were doing with them and the kid said they were just tossing them all away. The whaddayacallems were in planters the exact size I'd been looking for, so I asked if I could snag a couple and they guy in charge said I could. I grabbed 8 of them and stuffed them in my trunk, thanked the guys and went elsewhere to finish the errands.

That particular Kmart's rear opens onto a back road I take home from the plaza, so I usually drive around it to avoid all the lights and traffic. They had just left all the pallets full of flowers and planters behind the building for trash pickup too!

So, be sure to check your local stores, you might score some free planters like I did.
