I know, I know...how could this guy not know what an airstone is? I mean is it a rock of some kind..a device..what the hell is it? Pardon my ignorance ya'll  | ||

Airstone An airstone is a piece of aquarium furniture, traditionally a piece of limewood or porous stone, whose purpose is to gradually diffuse oxygen into the tank, eliminating the noise and large bubbles of conventional air filtration systems, and providing other benefits to the health of the fish. Airstones are sold in a very wide variety of shapes, sizes, and levels of coarseness--from extremely rough, producing larger (though still typically unnoticeable) bubbles and letting in more oxygen--to very fine, producing minuscule bubbles. Airstones are increasingly being made from bonded glass beads and synthetic products like fiberglass. There is some controversy as to the efficiency of airstones versus the conventional powerhead system. Arguments can be made in favor of both systems, and both possess certain advantages and disadvantages. Among aquarists, the choice is very much a matter of personal preference, quite often discussed in internet forums.  | ||

| looks like it's rock I doubt it is feels like sand to the touch I figure they are glue and sand you'll find them in aquarium supply even in Wal-Mart...they run 2 for 1.50 they break your air stream into tiny bubbles rather than the big bubbles you would get from an open ended hose

so it's just a rock? I have Waterfarm buckets that I heard airstones would be good to put in each bucket... thx again folks! BTW, how do you "thank" people? | ||

| Seems silly of me to mention it, but you will need an airpump to attach the airstone. Depending on size they are 10-30 dollars and they usually come with a length of hose to connect the pump to an airstone.

| Good morning, I feel I should also add to this shopping list of air supply stuff with : Depending on how many little buckets you are trying to add air too you may need the addition of a small "multi-gang" manifold that will disperse the air to multiple airstones but, you'll prob need either more than one pump or one larger pump to supply air for all the stones.
