I have been doing some reading up for my upcoming and read that it is "impossible" to effectively use pc fans and any type of carbon filter--something to the effect the pc fan is not designed to pull the air through. Possible or not? The smell kind of decommissioned me for about 7 months and I would to hear if anyone has had success using a PC and DIY carbon filter? And what type of filter design did you use. Thank in adv. peace

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The problem with PC fans is they are not designed for loaded pressure. Even the high CFM fans, they are meant to just move the air around them with minimal stress. It would probably work ok with a higher CFM fan, but like I said the added pressure of pulling through a scrubber will make the fan work harder, shortening its life. I have 130CFM delta's on my water cooled PC and they move a TON of air, but not sure how they would do under pressure. HTH.

![]() | I agree. I've tried PC fans from 90 CFM up 170 CFM and even some "High Static Pressure" PC fans. None of them were effective at pulling / pushing a decent volume of air through even a 1/3" to 1/2" bed of carbon. Just not enough throughput when under load. | ||

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated. This will send me back to the drawing board a bit. How about an inline fan used for bathrooms? I can easily get one and are fairly inexpensive. Mine is a secret cab grow and I have a concern about noise since my grow has to be 99% stealth. Any suggestions that won't damage the wallet too much?

In-line fans should pull enough air.

i use the 4" inline duct fans with a muffler i made from a DIY i found on the internet. if you are listening for it near it you may be able to find it. but the sound of the AC runnin in the house or even a small oscillating fan would cover it up. leave a fan on in your room and your golden. gl bud ![]() ![]() -Rooph

I've also been trying to build a micro grow, and the smell situation so far has me completely stumped. ![]() However, I've just found these mini squirrel cage fans by Comair Rotron. Apparently the max pressure they can handle ranges from .48 to 2.5/wg. According to Can's website the max pressure imposed at the max rated CFM for their filters is .75wg. They have a range of sizes and CFMs that seem perfect for mini grows. DC Blower Search Results - Comair Rotron I'm looking at this one in particular; it has the highest pressure rating of all of the fans. DC Blower Datasheet - 040718 - AMD24Z3E Comair Rotron The only problem is their only North American distributor is Digi-Key, and their site is a pain in the ass to navigate. I'm gonna try to go through a local rep and see how that goes.
