So whats the deal with Co2?
permalink

I read a little bit about Co2 in high times. Guy said he increased his total yield from 12 oz to 16 by using supplemental Co2 for his babies. Also said he had a Co2 reader thing that could read how much Co2 was in the air and turn it on when levels dropped to a certain point. The article was about something else though, it didnt really get into specifics. I was wandering if anyone has anymore info about this subject (like pricing, set-up, etc.) or could point me in the right direction? Im not looking to buy anything right now, but Id like to read up on it so I'll know what to look for when Im ready.

I get about 30% more yield with co2. The controllers you mentioned are nice to keep ppm at a consistant number i.e, 1500 ppm. They are pretty pricey but if you can swing it it is definitely worth it. CAP Controllers with Fuzzy Logic monitor is a nice one.

What you need is:

CO2 tank, and a place to get it filled.
Regulator
CO2 hose
timer if you don't have a controller. To run co2 without a controller set the timer to run the co2 15 min every hour. A half hour right before lights go on is nice too. Then do not add CO2 when lights are off. I like to run CO2 from the 3rd week of flower to the 6th or 7th week depending on the flower time of the strain.

Active air makes a nice kit for about 160 bucks. Then you just need a tank. Here is a couple links:

Hydrofarm - Climate Control / Co2
R & M Supply, Inc. - CO2 Controls

I personaly wouldnt reccomend doing it without a controller. Timers have caused me headaches for years. The greenair SPC-1 is a very easy, set and forget controller.

EMJ you reliably get a 30% yield increase? I've barely seen over 10-15 % myself

Honestly CO2 is more of a headache than its worth in my experience. Unless you got a G to burn, dont bother. Theres a lot more ways to increase your yield for 1/4 the price and half the headache. By simply; adding more light and space.

i dont think there is any point unless you have a totally sealed room.

Yup 30% for sure. The density is way better with the CO2. I agree the controller is totally worth it and less headaches.

A sealed room does help a lot so that turning vents on and off doesn't make things too complicated.

If you want to do it inexpensively and have a small garden than think about fermenting your own. There's a great thread on ICMag about this topic that is currently being updated by the author and she loves to answer questions.
