I know this question may sound dumb. Can i put seedings under 600watt hps?, if so what would be the most close i could keep them from the light without getting burned? Their under compact fluoresents at the moment, when should i put them under the hps is what i really want to know. Any ansers will be appreciated. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Going from floro to HID can scare the babies, so I say put the light pretty high, like 4-5 feet if possible, and lower a little bit every day. Put your hand under the light at plant height- if you can leave it there for a long time temp is probably ok. If it burns you it'll burn the plants. Also, if you can't put the light high up but the temps are ok, try a few layers of window screening under the lamp, big enough to provide a shading effect for the entire light footprint. Then remove 1 layer every day or so, and see what they like. Watch them close- they can fry / wilt easy. The window screen, if open to the outside of a cab, will also provide a heat sink, lowering temps. Remember that if you have 50 ACTUAL watts of CFL, 600Whid is more than 11 times brighter. Big jump in intensity.

![]() | I've done this a few times with young clones or seedlings and a 600w MH or HPS. If the lamp is hung horizontally, I'd start out with it about 2 feet away from the tops of the plants. Watch for burning and on the other hand stretching and adjust accordingly. In my experience, they might be a little stunned by the extra power at first, but will enjoy it almost right away. | ||
