I'm not much of an electrician, but I think I heard somewhere that reducing input power is bad for the fan. Well maybe that sounds silly to me now that I wrote it - I mean any fan with a low/med/high switch has that. Hard sayin not knowin.

I am sure some fans can be reduced with little to no change, but the average cheap one may wear and what not?? donno just a shot.
