Reverse osmosis - shutoff valve
permalink

Hi all

I finally got to the conclusion that I must have a RO filter with my tap water coming out with 600ppm.
I have one question which I couldn't find an answer for anywhere.

The filter I want to buy comes with a shutoff valve.
What exactly does it do, and do I need it if I just want to connect the filter directly to my regular faucet?

Thanks in advance

most people hook the r/o up to a separate "water dispenser" spout

that way you don't wash the dishes with it

depends on the filter, some filters can hook up to the faucet, others require hooking up to the pipes below the sink. A shutoff valve seems pretty necessary to me, you dont want it running constantly.

Drinking Water Filters- Reverse Osmosis Water Purifiers & Water Softeners That company makes a filter that hooks up directly to your faucet, you just unscrew the aerator and screw in their attachment and your off n' running. They're a bit pricier but thats what you gotta pay for stuff made in the USA these days.

Thanks guys. I guess I should go to the store and see what exactly they offer and how it will work with my setup.

GreenDragon, that filter you linked to seems exactly what I need. Hopefully I can find something like that around here.

After visiting the shop, I think I'll just connect it to a valve like this one, and open it only when I need water for my plants, and
have a float valve to make sure my tank doesn't overflow.

The shut off valve is like 1/4 the price of the R/O filter, and I'm trying not to spend too much.

I was thinking... as long as the PPM says 0 and it is putting out enough water? Why change it?
