Is it possible to keep a plant continually producing for an indefinite period? Any basic information behind it would be appreciated.

Sorry, that was phrased poorly.

Continuing its life cycle: vegetative then the resulting flowering.

As long as the plant is recieving more than say 16 hours of light like 18/6 or 24/0 the plant will stay in a vegetative state until there are enough dark hours to trigger the flowering process in them.

In theroy, you can grow your plant for a very very long time without flowering.

Out of curiosity, when growing a plant with sporadic natural light cycles (IE. starting a plant late and leaving it outside) what would cause it to start flowering? Would it vegetate for a period of time until it matured then automatically go into flowering?

After harvesting, can you continue a plants growth cycle? Keep it living, producing..

Thanks,

What is the current light cycle it is recieving? If it is less than 16 hours of light it will go right into flowering. Some strains react to different light periods. Where 16 ours of light may be enough for on estrain not to flower it may cause another strain to start flowering it all depends. But 12-14 hours of dark will cause just about all strains to start flowering. Some plants will auto-flower regardless of the cycle however ... There are just about always exceptions to the rule

After harvest the plant is ready to die. You can reveg it by putting it under 24/0 of light and you will start to see new growth and can then take it through the whole cycle again. This can take as long as 1-2 months to start up again or as short as 2 weeks.

The best thing you can do to ensure the longevity of your plants are to clone them before you flower them and let the clone mature and harvest that or keep that clone as a mother in a veg state to take more clones from

I am assuming less than 16 hours given the time of year, I honestly have no idea. Would this apply to a really young plant? Would it just basically 'grow into' a flowering state? That was mainly what I was asking about, a young plant. Would growing a plant in such conditions reflect poorly upon the end harvest and/or its development?

What are the 'cons' of doing this? Since you seem to not be favorable of this method, I am curious why.

Hm. I can see you favoring this due to speed and keeping a strain alive, once you know that you have a really good plant.

This is probably totally off topic. It might help to have a more general forum available.

White Vampire,

Yep pretty much ... the young plant will grow right into flowering. Wbich means very poor THC production compared to what it could be. It won't grow vegetively then decide to start flowering ... it has no choice. It's chemistry is dictated by the light cycles.

As far as revegging, it may have reduced vigor and not produce as well as the first time around ... I think there are a few topics over in the Indoor forum covering this in a little more detail ... I think wolfman posted some info on his experiences doing this.

Yeah this is proabably better suited to be in trhe Indoor forum

lensman,

Yep exactly what I am toying with now for the single sativa dominant clone I got from my current grow We'll see how well my Bonsai skills are

It should be interesting to see how my current plant turns out. It was started rather late and the light cycles are changing. It has been kept outside after it was transplanted from a seedling. After this I will likely end up experimenting with some indoor growing then try some outdoor following the light cycles next spring.

Thanks for the help.
