Okay, I'm going to start growing to help aid my grandparents medical problems. I'm going to give a run-down of what I was planning on doing and wanted opinions on optimum growing techniques.

What is running through my mind is doing a mix of ScrOG and Aeroponics. Using GroRox and an Aeroponics system for the growing medium and then combine that with the ScrOG technique. Also, I was planning on obtaining either Northern Lights #1 or #5 as the plant of choice.

I will be growing in a 12'x12'x8' room (WxWxH) and was wondering which light system I should take the time to use? HPS is optimal of course, but in this situation would the Cool White / Warm White shop fixture mixture work nearly as well? Cost is not too big of an issue, but of course a consideration. Will the lighting setup influence growth rates drastically? How about the MH systems?

Also, how well would the reflective emergency blankets work for reflection on the wall? Better or worse than tinfoil? Would the blankets cause hotspots?

Any suggestion on what type of nutes to use for the plants to create healthy, good smoking plants?

I will be creating one mother plant and cloning from her to create the rest of the farm.

Any comments, suggestions, or concerns would be greatly appreciated. Please post and reply so I can make an intelligent descision on how to go about setting up.

Sorry, I forgot to add this part to the above post.

Would it be recommended to just drop the ScrOG idea w/ the Northern Lights strain as it's height is usually (from what I read) around 3' or so? I was thinking using ScrOG would increase yeild at harvest. Maybe just go with SOG?

How much do u intend to grow cos a room of that size would grow a huge amount.
4x4x8 height= 4 plants anything from 10 -40 oz pending your plant an system.
lights sodiums an halides give a good spectrum.
dont know that much about scrog i prefer single pots wit a single plant,dwc bubbler or hydrofarm are about the best 2 systems at the moment!.
emergency reflective blanket, if its white i dont see why not
or plain white plastic sheet nice n cheap does the job well.
nuets canna,micro flora range,opti grow/bloom all good.

Wooo Hoooo! 12 x 12! Weeeeeeell, lessee.....144 square feet x 1 oz. per ft. = 9 lbs per harvest! I hope that's enough smoke for Granny. I think that may be a little bit much. Now, seriously, I think you should really forget the idea of aeroponics as a way to go for your first-time grow. Follow the KISS principle. Grow in fine organic potting soil until you get a grow or two under your belt. If you really want to go hydro, then I strongly suggest that you grow in bubblers. They are inexpensive to build, simple to use, economically frugal so far as nutrients go, and magnificently powerful grow machines that out produce almost anything. There is plenty of info on bubblers here and at http://www.overgrow.com.
Because you have plenty of room, you have plenty of options.
I use three growing areas. One for clones and seedlings, a vegging chamber and a flowering chamber. Light your vegging area with a 1000w metal halide. Light up the flowering chamber with two 1000w HPS. Use a 4 x 4 area for vegging and a 4 x 8 area for flowering. You can tuck a little clone box in the vegging area and still have plenty of room to move around and store your supplies. You will need to have very good ventilation. BIG BLOWER. You need to be able to move the entire volume of air out of the room in two minutes. You will need two oscillating fans to circulate the air. For an additional $1000.00 you can add a fully automated CO2 system. With the three chamber design, it is a simple matter to get a continual harvest. Read all you can about cultivation. And, enjoy yourself. This is a rewarding pastime for us medical marijuana users!
