Question
permalink

Ive never done this before and I have a million questions but ill keep it to a few for now. I would like to grow in my closet in my room. The closet is 4 feet long 2 feet wide 8 feet high. How many plants would fit comfortably in this amount of space? I dont want to suffer quality for quantity but obviously if i could get more at the same quality i would like to do that.

Another thing I havent really seen much on is humidity. My room is in my basement and it's kind of damp as it is underground. Is that bad? If it is what should I do about it?

My last questions about the smell. I gotta keep the smell down so my parents arent like hey what the hells that smell ya know. What can I do to keep it down? Thanks for any help at all you guys can give me.

Well first off you can fit about 1 plant per sq ft (give or take some)

On humidity keep it between 40% and 60% and you should be fine. Higher humidity levels will invite mold

Ozone generators and Neg Ion gens will hide the smell ...

and lastly ... you SHOULD NOT grow in your parents house without their consent to do so. If for whatever reason LEO appears it is your parents that will go to jail and not you!!! Why risk your parents well being for your own satisfaction ...

also, check out the search button in the upper right hand section of the page to look for common answers like these

Thanks lilbuddie for the help. I have another quick question. You said one plant per square foot which is great. My question is is it better to get say 5 different smaller pots to put them in individually or would it be better to have a few or even just one really big container and put all my seeds in the big one and spread them out ya know? Any idea? Thanks

hey milk,
you prob get them from the same place you get air conditioners from i donno how much a neg ion generator or ozone generator cost. both of them take the smell out of the air. you dont need one, but if you live in a high risk place its a good idea.

You can make an ozone generator out of an old 6000 volt neon light box(ballast?). You can either use foil or wire mesh for the electrodes. I wish i could remember exactly how to do it.

I would say to get indevidual pots for each of the plants. It's a lot more versatile, and easier to work with that way. And if you a variety, between strains, or just different plants, it's easier to control watering and nutes, etc. with seperate pots. Square pots are good because they utilize the space better, and remember, fully grown plants should have about 3 gallons of space, and maybe ten inches of depth, to grow well.

Also, don't get an ozone generator, unless you really know you need one. In another thread there was a discussion, and the basic findings were that ozone generators can be damaging to plants, and can be dangerous to people. And extra Oxygen doesn't help plant growth, so the only benefits are odor and pollutant removal, suited for big commercail ops. Maybe.

neg ions are supposed to work OK, and I'm pretty sure that they're completely safe, and harmless to plants.

extra humidity can promote molds, and can often be helped by getting good airflow. ventilation and a good oscillating fan would be good in that area.

Hope this helps.

ozone generators need a minium 6000volts the ballast idea works the plan is to get 2 glass jars one that will fit inside the other the smaller one of the two needs foil placed on the inside and the outside being sure not to make contact between the two!positve to one side negative to the other!place small jar inside larger jar place on heat proof shelf or something similar turn it on and watch those nasty
(i mean nice)smells go!
