| Hello All, Here is my predicament.... I have 6 plants growing under a 400w MH lamp for about 6 weeks. Some are about 10" tall while other are shorter and bushier. The strains are mixed and unknown. I am trying to take one clone from each plant so that I may determine the sex of the parent plant from the flowered clones. My first attempt was to put the clones right into a flowering chamber with 430w hps and good ventilation. I used Oasis rooting cubes and mixed B1 startup solution with water according to the directions for clippings, which I poured into the rooting cube tray so that it covered the bottom of the cube. About 1/2" of standing water in tray. I used a cloning gel before sticking the clippings into the rooting cube. After about 2 hours in the flowering chamber all of the plants dropped over and have been that way for about three days. I'm not sure if they are going to survive. I figured I would give it another try and this time I would leave them in the veg room until they rooted a bit before sending them to flowering. Hoping that keeping the same environment would help. I cut 6 clippings, dipped them in rooting gel and stuck them in the oasis rooting cubes with 1/2" water in the tray and about 2 hours they all dropped again. In case your curious, I made sure that the tip of the clipping was stuck into the rooting cube to a depth that would be under the water line of the standing water. The clones are under the same 400w MH lamp that the mothers are under except I have my mothers closer to the lamp. The lamp is about 3 feet away from the clones. Could someone let me know what if anything I might be doing wrong here? As you can see I'm not sure that there is a problem but if there is I would like to try this again in about 2-3 weeks when the mothers bush out again. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Hybrid { But you can call me Brock Landers } | ||

| hey man, your lights were WAY to bright and intense for clones. Clones need dim light and very high humidity levels. Spending the extra money on an antitranspirant, you just spray it on the leaves and it helps keep your little babies from sweating to death. | ||

| Hi Reeferman, Here is what I did. I put the clippings under a clear dome and put tracing paper over the top to diffuse the light. An old theater trick. Its now kind of like an overcast day for them. It seems to have reduced the light by a factor of two or more. I also cut two holes in the dome so air can get in. So far they seem to like it. | Those plants at 6 weeks are young. You are taking branches that are too succulent to clone. The branch that you are cloning needs to have some bend to it. Some size would help also. I am sure that there are some on this site that would tell you that they have cloned even younger plants. I say ask them to post a pic of these "Clones." | ||

| Highguy, you CAN take clones from plants that young (6 weeks isn't all that young, more than old enough [in most situations] to be cloing them, or even flowering them), but the success rate will probably not be as high w/ younger plants as it will w/ older plants. E | ||

E

1. Why would you take clones unless you were sure of sex. At 6 weeks was he sure of sex? 2. A plant that is 6 weeks old is young on a plant that takes on average 125 (17-18 weeks) days to mature. 3. This guy took cuttingd from what? Baked them under a HPS light in a dome and wilted the plants beyond repair. I never said you could not clone young plants. If you have the experience you can clone about anything. It is easier for anyone to clone older plants, the stems don't wilt down as much.

| Highguy, As long as you asked the questions... 1. The reason I am taking clones is to sex the clones. The clones will tell you the sex of the parent plant. By the time the clones show sex you can loose all the males and have some beefy Mamas left over to clone many more from. 2. I took the top portion of the plants that all had at least 6 internodes on it. The stems were very secure. 3. Seeing that this is my first time cloning and it was my original question to all for assitance, perhaps you expand on some insight that may help me rather than pointing out what I am doing wrong. In case you havn't noticed, I already know what I was doing wrong. Your post merely reiterates my original dilema offering no assitance to me or anyone else that might just have the same problem. I thought this board was for learning and having fun along the way? Hybrid | ||

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I think HighGuy hit the nail on the head about "baking" them under the HID. Try using Floros instead. Most posts I read regarding cloning are done under floros; I am not saying you can't under do it a HID but as I said most people are using floros. Just my .02 LB

![]() | Hybrid... Why not flowreing your plants just to sex them, reverting them to a vegetative state after, and remove the males right away. After that you could clone 100% females. If i understood correctly your questions you'll take less time doing this way, you won't waste 2 months vegetating clones just to know if they're males/females. As for the lightning question my personal experience says plants tend not to enjoy direct exposure to strong lights, after transplanting or cloning... SmileWolfman
