when are you supposed to transplant into a 5 gallon pot? how tall on average should the plant be before you do so.

![]() | I dunno if there is a rule of thumb. I would replant 1 - 2 weeks before flowering but I have replanted after flowering started. I base it on the root growth in the existing pot. When you get a buildup of roots around the edges, I replant it into a 5g. But this is not the same as being root bound.....when I consider transplanting that is. Krusty,

![]() | Check under the pot by looking through the drainage holes...if you have roots coming out, transplant. Do this if you have a few drain holes...just 1 wouldn't be a good indicator.

![]() | I try to have 1 gallon of "pot" (no pun intended) for every 1 foot of height. If you're in a 2 gallon pot and you're plants are approaching 2 feet tall, they're outgrowing their space. If your plants have stopped growing, transplant.
