help I am a brand new grower I don't know diddly about how to grow anything but I am going to try. I figure all the money I spend on nickle bags i can put it towards growing one I can just stop smoking for awhile (well I least stop buying it) and grow one and enjoy smoking again with something i grew naturally. I have some questions 1. can I use the seeds that I get from the nickle bags I buy to grow a indoor plant? 2. the lighting situtaion is a little confusing to me (watts, mh, hid, blue light amber light .)what do I need exactly to grow my babies 3. I have a closet in my home which is about 8 feet high 3 ft width and 5 ft long is that enough for mary jane what do I have to do to the closet (construction) so can grow her. 4. soil is another what do I have to get excatly (fertilzation, food, hp, nurtrients ). 5. is a fan on the bottom of the closet enough to vent the closet. 6. how bad is the smell of her do I have to worry about its going to be only one plant

Welcome aboard!

Have you read the Grow Guide at all? You will learn alot from it.
I am bored so I will do the best of my knowledge to answer your question.

1. Yes. You can use a seed from any bag of weed you get, this is called bagseed.

2. Use can use flourescent lights, High pressure sodium, Metal Halide, or EVL's (Envirolite). For a beginner your best bet would be to go with fluorescents, they are easy find and good for starters. 4 foot shop lights work well and so do compact fluorescents (spiral bulbs). They are cheap too!
If you have access to a Hps or MH, by all means use it. Lights not to use would be incandescent (ordinary house bulb), halogen lights, Mercury Vapor, black lights, or heating lamps. They will not work or will produce very poor results.
Lumens is what you will be looking for when getting lighting. The more lumens the merrier. Ultimately you will want atleast 5,000 lumens/sq ft, which is equivalent to a cloudy day outside. For optimal results, 10,000 lumens/sq ft, which is equal to a sunny day outside.

3. 3 x 5 room will give you 15 sq ft. Since you are only growing one plant, try to make your grow area a little smaller, maybe 2 x 2 or 3 x 3. This way you will not need as much light.
Construction... White walls, no tin foil, no mirrors. Space blankets or emergency blankets work great or mylar is better yet for reflecting light.

4. Regular potting soil from your local walmart, home depot, whatever. Avoid buying anything that is prefertilized, where as you may run into problems later.
Nutrients. NPK of 3-2-1 is good for vegging, and 1-2-3 would be good for flowering.

5. For one plant it should be good. The fan will help reinforce the stem and make it sturdy and strong, and also provide ventilation.

6. Smell... what smell. you may want to invest in a bottle of glade or some candles.

But seriously read the Grow Guide.
Happy growing. :thumbs

Peace

For my first grow (circa 1985) I used bag seed, dirt dug up from outside, a desk florescent light and miracle grow (which I sprayed on the leaves). Guess what. I grew a 6 ft monster with decent bud (took about 6 months and was really stretched out!). Total out of pocket expense was about $5.

I now use some pretty fancy stuff, but you can do a grow really cheap if you want to. The better the equipment, the better the quality and quantity of bud you'll get.

alteredego has given you some great advice here, so use it wisely my friend!

The only thing I disagree with is Mercury Vapour lights not working or producing poor results. If you have access to MV lights (or already have them) by all means use them - they are good for vegging, and are especially a good addition to say HPS to provide some UV lighting during flowering!

Good luck!

Dude, u can grow with bagseeds and cheap supplies.
Im growing 8 plants (first grow) that i started earlier this month. I saved up the seeds from weed bags that i liked.

Im using cheapo mini fluoro lights u can get at any store, and putting them on the window sill during the day. Potting soil, maybe some top soil and some miracle grow.

Hasnt set me back at all. (prob about the price of a bag of smoke)
OK granted, this is not a great way to achieve tons of good quality smoke, but im putting these outside soon, mothernature will provide the light and all i'll have to do is just fertilize.
So yeah u can do it....and have your own stash. $crew the dealers!

Damn, campihsphere, that's some low wattage for MJ. It'll be sort of okay for a small plant during veggie, but I've never heard of anybody growing healthy buds with this low of a wattage.

If the bulb is fluorescent, then yes you can use it. Best of all it's free and if you are on a tight budget, it's well worth it even if you do have to buy a bulb.

Most spiral floros are used to light a room in your house, as long as it is fluorescent and not a halogen or incandescent, it'll work.

Good Luck!

Peace

if you're really serious about growing some weed and not just farting around I reccommend you pick up the book Indoor Marijuana Horticulture by Jorge Cervantes.

did your seeds really come from nickel bags? man, that's terrible. Go get some real seeds either off the internet or whatever man. you need decent genetics otherwise your just wasting your time and effort.
