Started flowering my white widow and bob marlesy best, few questions..
permalink

Hey all, today (being November 5th 2004 at 1.40pm) i switched my 3 plants (2 bob marleys best and 1 white widow) onto 12/12, they are around 1 - 2 ft tall growing in a closet space with just a 150watt HID (yeah i know the lighting could be better but i am waiting to afford a 600watt HID) my question is this: I know that white widow and bob marleys best take 8 to 10 weeks to mature, since i planted them on the 15th November 2004 the 8 week period is up on the 10th of january? or if i leave it for a full 10 weeks the 10 week period will be up on 24th jan are these dates correct for the harvest? what i plan to do is flower them on 12/12 for 8 weeks so from 15th November to 10th january, then siwtch the lights off completly or maybe just down to 8 hrs for the last 2 weeks to force the last bits of resin to appear. What do you guys think of this? is this ok? im really happy with the plants this far so i really dont want to cause any problems id like to smoke this batch so any comments, opinions or just general advice/help on this matter would be greatly appriciated also any of you guys out there grown white widow and bob marleys best can u show me some pics? well thats about it, thanks for your time, Happy Growing!!!

Peace

Sounds like you've been reading quite a bit, which is a great thing, my friend. Harvest time is probably the most subjective part of growing herb, so reading and learning from experience are your best bet.

How long did you veg the plants for? You said you planted them on Nov 5th and put them to flower on the 15th... 10 days won't give you much vegetative growth to work with, but either way... maybe just a type-o.

As for harvest date, there are plenty of posts on here for how to tell if your plants are mature. GLASSPACKEDBOWL has an excellent post in the Harvesting section called "When to Harvest?!" so I suggest you start there. It is probably the best harvesting guide you will see on here... God I wish it had been posted a year ago when I was trying my first few grows.

Afer all is said and done, it is still up to you to decide exactly when to harvest. I would still recommend a day or two of complete darkness at the very end of your flowering as it really does seem to bring the crystals out.

Good luck dude. I will be harvesting my Northern Lights #5 right about the same time, so hopefully all will work out well for you.

Cheers!

Hey thanks for the reply. Yeah that was a typo, i meant i put them onto the 12/12 cycle on November 15th, they were vegging for just over 1 month (because of limited room, might try and LST next grow). Yeah i have been reading quite a bit, and you seem to learn so much more each grow. I'll check out the harvesting guide, thanks again for the reply, and good luck with your Northern Lights #5 i bought some NL couple weeks back real nice smoke. Anyways, peace.

Hi Ratermike :Hello: Though the schedule you set for the plants seems reasonable they have a mind of their own. I haven't grown Marley's best I have grown a couple of honest to goodness Jamaican Sativas and I can tell you they needed the full 10 weeks under 400 watts of light. White widow the 8 weeks should be OK.

The thing about shutting the lights off all that time at the end of the grow is a white widow breeder recommendation. I am not sure how much difference the dark period really makes. My last grow was Dutch Passion White Widow Feminized. Will post pics as soon as I can for ya.

I personally would recommend that you leave the lights on 12/12 throughout the entire flowering process. When you begin the 8th week of flowering, carefully inspect the trichomes on your buds and look for the color change (amber), to know when they’ve reached their full potential. Also, when 60-80% of the hairs have changed color, that’s a sign that the plant has reached maximum potency. Hope that helps somewhat…Good luck!
