Ok so Im planning on taking clones for the first time ever. My objective is to root clones to determine the sex of my 6 plants that are currently in veg. I've google this a million times today but Im still kind of lost. I want to take the cuttings, dip in rooting hormone, then put into a medium. Should I use a 60/30 mix of my fox farms ocean forrest and perlite as my medium or can I use just straight perlite? I plant on putting the little cups containing the cuttings into a big clear plastic tupper ware container (homemade humidome) then putting them under the CFL on a 24 hr lighting schedual to root then switch them to 12/12 to sex. So is that how it works or am I destined to flop? There's so many methods out there, it gets overwhelming.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Sounds like you've got the basic idea. I've tried a few different methods for cloning and I'm rubbish at all of them - out of my current nursery of clones, I took 12 and I've got 4 viable clones ready to be potted up tomorrow after 2 weeks under a warm, gentle light. Get stuck in and see how it goes, it's all a learning process - I know that's not much use but there are so many different methods and variables in each grower's set up, your best bet is to find out which method works for you and try to perfect your technique.

DarkFox has a direct comparison of each method along with their success rates and step by step instructions. Here The mix isn't that important, neither is the light. The most important thing is humidity managment. High humidity at first, with a steady decline, and don't ever let them wilt. A clone can live rootless for a very long time as long as you don't let it wilt.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I used just straight peat moss. I have 9clones doing well right now with just 20oz. styrofoam cups, sphagnum peat moss, soda bottle domes. I just used razor to cut the branch with at least 3 pairs of leaves right below the bottom pair, then cut off the bottom pair, scratch the plant about 1/4th inch up the stem with my razor, dip in water for a min., then dip into hormone powder, then stick into pre-made hole in soil. Make sure it's pre-made hole so the soil doesn't brush off the hormone powder. Then make sure the soil is always warm and moist
