Glad you liked it. There is a link six posts up that discusses this at length.
It depends on a lot of things like how old the site is, how good a wrap you can get...

The biggest benefit to al'ing is you can go directly to 12/12 if you wish, they are rooted clones without taking up the space of a cloning area.

Hey XYZ, Glad to see you are still using the AL.

I have done that before and I think we addressed it in the AL thread. I recall that if you let it go too long it will stress the mom and not long enough will have too few roots.

Anyway, I am getting back into the grow again since the kids have grown up. I just got some sour diesel clones and will be up and running. Be looking for new AL posts!

So good to hear form the AL master

This has been an expierement that grew/changed from the get go.
The stem I was using wasn't quite round and I couldn't get a good seal.
Then I just couldn't give up an went with the 'tray' adaption. Worked like a charm.
I am going hempy style and AL'ing is just the ticket, so I will be doing more.

Just for the record:

I have taken about 10 clones from her already and she is ready to put out another 20 or so.

I am doing some air-layering (without a tray-see 1st pic) to create some more moms, not that I need any as I never grow this babe indoors, but I want to see how this works for Mom rejuvenation.

I think this method may be just as effective as the bonsai method for keeping moms alive.

I know it is a bold statement but this mom just LOVED this.

For general air-layering I find that you need some width to the stem you are using, but not much.

Most of the time woody stems work a bit better.
What is more of a factor, as far as woodiness goes, is the age of the plant. The mother from which this was layered was shooting roots out at the base all over. She was about 2-3 years old.

I have a pic of that mom's roots in a gj somewhere. I will see if I can find it.

i dont think i could keep a plant alive that long

hell 4 months is long enough for me for a harvest.

Yep, just did it all by itself.

I keep this mom going because the genetics are very good. Problem is, being sativa she takes more than 90 days indoors and tends to herm a bit.

Outdoors she is a very nice lady.
