Hey there folks, I'm wondering about how long I have to take clones from some outdoor plants I have so that I can have an indoor scene this winter. Situation is that I am looking for a suitable rental to do this. In the meantime I have some potential momma plants outside. They are just now beginning to flower and I am hoping that its not too late to take clones from them. I know that it is not good to take cuttings from flowering plants but it is so early in flowering that I wonder if it might still work. Is taking cuttings on sept 1 okay? Any advice is much appreciated. Photo period is consistent with mid-Oregon.

I've taken clones during late flowering before, you just have to allow an extra amount of time for rooting them. That amount can vary between only a few extra days to a couple weeks depending on the strain, where the cut was taken from, and how far into flowering you were. That having been said the sooner you take them the better... I prefer to avoid re-vegging plants so I'd take them as soon as possible. Thread moved to propagation... ![]() ![]()

![]() ![]() | Thanks GD. Well, they are real early in flowering (just showing 2 stigmas at the nodes) but it could be 4 weeks before I am able to get inside. Strains are purple kush and papaya. I worry about losing genetic rigor by cloning from a momma that has started to flower. Or of confused momma plants if I get them under a veg light regime after they have been outside through August. Might not have much choice though.
