does a clone need roots to show its sex?

Hi all
I want to sex 4 beatiful little plants (1 Critical Mass from MR.Nice and 3 AK-47 from SeriousSeeds) and I wonder if I can cut a clone from each plant and put them directly to 12/12 light cycle, even if they has not developed roots yet

I just need that they show some sign of their sex, then I can keep the mum(s? hopefully.... ) (still vegging) for taking more clones

Waht do you think about it?

Why not sex the plants before you take the clones?

im not sure - my first though tis the clones will be very weakly and prone to sickness

but then again if your going to kill them after sexing i guess it doesnt matter as long as they live strong enough to show sex

but then will stress cause what would be female to herm.

i dont know - im just thinking out loud - better you hear from others

Because when you put a plant to 12/12 you cannot put it again in a veg without stressing the plant. More, You loose a considerable amount of time

I have a flowering room actually working with a big sativa, so I would to put my clones there

Meanwhile the mums continue to vegging

Yea I don't need to keep those clones alive once I know their sex. My guess is that the stress caused from the 12/12 cycle will not kill the clones.... or immediately lead them to hermie

Yes you can, its a good way to find the sex of the mothers without stressing them... Its probably going to take a little while for the clones to show sex... I figure they'l have to develop roots and start growing first, I've never actually tried it but I've read of it being done and know someone who's tried it

thread moved to propagation...

I forgot to mention that the mums are in soil

The flowering room is equipped with hydro Wilma drip system

so, I don't really want flowering my mums, I have to clone them to get the best results

Peace all!!!!!!!!!!!

I think they can do quite fast with a bubblecloner..... Do you think they can do the process in about 2 weeks or they need more time?

Then I can transplant my mum(s....?) in a very large pot

can't waiiiiiiiit

dave--Yeah that's how I've sexed plants, just take a cutting and put it into a glass of water and into the flowering room. Within 2 weeks they sure should show sex, it's usually around 5-7 days for me and I know what sex they are.

Happy Growing

Alleycat
