Another question about cloning... What is the proper amount of growth to leave behind so that a mother can regenerate? I'm going to post a pic a little later, as I'm going to my operation here shortly, so that you can see how bushy my plants are and maybe help me determine how many clones i can take.
Also, I'm quite worried about removing a mother from my system. The problem here is this: it's a ten plant drip system, made out of a rubbermaid container, w/ simple fish pump circulating water through tubing, that drips over 3" net pots, returning to the reservoir below. Here's an example: FastGardens.com : 10 plant drip system. This is the third time I've used this very same system (in combination w/ a 400w HPS), and the first two times I had fairly decent results yielding roughly 4ozs the first time and 6 ozs the 2nd time around, using bagseed.
Well anyway this time around I'm using seeds that I got from a medical marijuana user who has post traumatic stress disorder that I met at a music festival. I acquired a wonderful head stash from him which included 5 kinds of cookies, 5 kinds of seeds, and 17 kinds of buds. 15 were gram samples including many excellent strains, such as blue moon rocks, original ak-47, snow queen x ak47, silver pearl, amsterdam flame, strawberry diesel, as well as 2 1/8 oz samples of jack the ripper and conquistador. (Sorry a little off subject, but it was glorious ) The 5 kinds of seeds I got were amsterdam flame, apollos thunder, island sweet skunk, belladonna, and widowgum (white widow x bubblegum) and all 5 were crossed by purple potent males. The one I'm currently growing is the apollo's thunder x purple potent.
Back on subject, these plants are much more bushier, and therefore the roots are much more complex. Remeber earlier when I said that the pots are on top of the reservoir? This has tended to be a problem, as the plants get bigger, it is much harder to change the water. Here's my situation: I need to remove a mother from the reservoir... the only problem is, since the plants are in such close proximity, their roots are extremely bound together. Again I will post a pic later, but by cutting the roots as to separate the plants, which i'm really nervous about, will I damage or kill the plants?
thanks for any input, sorry it was a little long-winded.

littlebittaweed, thanks man, glad you liked it, hope it was a bit of help.

dankers, if you going to re-veg the mother after flowering her, leave some lower fan leaves on, and some of the small popcorn buds, most of the growth will start on those brunches.
The picks bellow shows a mother after harvest and after one month of re-veg.
she gives me about 15 clones a month.
If you like to see more picks of mothers, check my thread Perpetual A to Z, at the beginning posts.

Moving one of them off the system, yes most definitely you would have to cut the roots of the one you're removing and that will put the plant to a shock for couple of weeks but it will continue growing and go to re-veg.
You can start taking clones from a plant as soon as you see brunches that have at least 5 nodes, cut the brunch with four and leave one node with a leaf on the plant and will grow another tip from there in a week or so.

I like the strains you acquired, thats some serious beans.
Hope you journal few grows on them in the future.

Happy New Year.

Thanks lou, you really seem to know your shit. I clearly see how the mother will regenerate. As for those seeds... I'm very excited to actually know the genetics, as the first times I grew were from bagseed. I'm actually planing on having 4 ten plant drip systems in a flowering room, and trying to set up a perpetual harvest once I move out of my current location. I already have a killer place in mind with a 5' tall crawl space that is completely surrounded by solid cement. I plan on putting 10 clones in one system every 2 weeks, so by the time the 1st 10 i plant are finished, I'll be ready to put 10 more in. I have a 4 plant bubbler that I hope to have 4 of those strains sustained in as mothers, so that each batch i put in will be a different flavor . Should be fun...but i have to start practicing cloning first!

Just an update - after 6 days, 4 of the 6 are definitely rooted (visible roots, and perky clones) and the other 2 have visible roots just not the same perkiness!

Big thumbs up to this method - the warm temps and high humidity make it childs play. I'll be taking 6-8 more clones this week from my other plants.

No laughing, but Scott's cloning powder. I used to use clonex gel but so far I'm having better luck with this method and the powder.

Back but not with good results.Out of the six clones i had cut on the 15th of december i lost one in a matter of hours and only 3 have showed definite root. the other 2 are in neutral mode or something not wilting not rooting . just hanging out spiting in my face every time i look at them and as for the clones i took on the 23rd of december . i lost all 6 the following day after leaving the dome on for longer than 3 hours. deff not a high humidity lover. back to trial mode again this time more clones . Have A Happy New Year Everyone

I like it best when...to spite all past efforts of finding the method that ensures fast, easy cloning...along comes a cut, that sat in a bowl of water...no dome, no bubbler...shoved in a drafty corner to keep it from cluttering the space where fancy domed and metered fed cuts are sputtering along...

and the thing shoots a root.

That second and third generation clone for a mother is a good idea Lou. I might have to try that. everything else I have tried has been done to the 'T' and with minor adjustments.
