![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Well...Lou Cypher, you gave me the impetus to do a clone grow. Actually, my propensity for different strains during the same grow tells me that I should try to at least move in a SOG/SCrOG direction. Height is not an issue but floor space (width/height) is and it seems like growing from clones is the best way to approach. I don't grow in soil so I will probably use either Rapid Rooters or go directly to trying to clone in miniHempys of some sort BUT the principles and ideas that have been laid down by you in this thread have been extraordinarily useful and helpful. You've become an Immortal, of a sort. Congrats!!

Sog IMO is the way of the future in growing. 4 clones per sq. ft. / 45-50w light / one week rooting, one week vegging, 8 weeks flowering. And if someone is using MH/HPS lights, the same space can produce a steady amount of great weed, every 10 weeks. Keep the mother in a small closet at 18/6 and every 8 weeks cut the amount of clones you need. Mini hemys are good, tripps and some others have done wonders with, but don't think of Pro-Mix as soil either. Pro-Mix its almost hempy + You get perlite/ vermiculite as hempy but also you get 65% of peat moss that has some things very needful for taste and aroma. And of course you can leave them longer with out a watering, unlike hempys. If you can put half in hempy and half in soil less mix, it will be the best thing, you can decide first hand which way you'll like to go. Overall, my advise will be, SOG them. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Well, this post brings us to the conclusion of chapter II. From the responses so far, it seems to me that most of you that follow this thread or read it, have produce some excellent results with this easy practice of cloning your fave plants, so I'll conclude with some things that I do and I believe it might fine tune your cloning skills. Preparation of soil. Wet the amount of soil to be used (well), the day before is going to be used as a medium for the clones. Do not water the soil again. Picking the right clones. Thickness of stem should be at least 1/8 of an inch One node minimum should be submerged in the soil one node should be left on the mother if you wish another clone to grow at that site, if not, eliminate the brunch. Lighting Don't be overzealous, in cloning, more light doesn't mean more growth, actually light has the opposite effect. Too much light will slow the rooting process. Humidity Apart everything else, humidity is the most important factor in cloning cause provides the plant with water while the stem is growing roots. If RH its lower than 75% the clones will start wilting and slowing down the overall growth. Misting doesn't replace humidity so, put your bottle away, and close the dome. With that said, lets move to the next chapter. ![]()

Taking a clone for a mother plant What we'll do here is actually "top" a plant but since we're rooting the top, its part of cloning. 1) Those are my mother plants, and the one I'll be topping is the far right. 2) This the top, full of clones, which I'll be cutting shortly. 3) now the top is ready to be removed from the plant. Notice that I left 7 nodes on the top. 4,5) cut the first 4 nodes off the stem 6) now cut the bottom of the stem two times across, 1/4" deep to open the stem and expose a little more of the stems raw core 7) deep it in cloning powder 8) and place it in the hole that you already prepare in the pot 9) place the pot in a bucket at least 2 f3 of space and cover it 10) place the bucket in a warm place with out direct light, and you done. Mother nature will do the rest for you, first 48 hrs. ![]() I'll keep you posted of her growth. Tips and hints, next post.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Unlike regular cloning, when I want to create a mother plant I prefer to take the top off instead of just a side brunch. The top will grow faster, be stronger and produce more. Since roots grow faster from where a node was cut than the end of the stem, I like to submerge in the soil at least 4 of them. To demonstrate that I borrow this pick from a dear friend and member. As you see the stems will grow roots first at the points where the nodes were cut than at the end of the stem it self. This is the reason also why I cut a criss cross at the bottom. Trying to expose more of the core that carry the enzymes that build the roots. I deep the stem in water with every cut that I do to keep it moist and not allowing any air to enter the core, will mean disaster. When I'm cloning a top I don't use small solo cups, I go straight to a 6" filled with dump soil, cause it will take longer to root than a regular clone, and I don't want to have to water it and rot the stem. A bigger pot will provide moisture for more than 2 weeks, by that time it will have roots and be ready to go to veg. Since I don't water my soil when I place the clone in it, I throw one cup of water at the bottom of the bucket, so when I place the pot in it it absorbs the water when it needs it and encourages the roots to go straight to the bottom. Also it helps in building up humidity faster. Happy cloning guys. ps: special thanks to tripps for providing the photo of his aerocloner.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Here is a quick update. I have always consider the first 24 hrs after taking a cutting to be the most crucial time that determines if the clone will live or die. Our clone have passed that test, looking at the picks you can see that we did a good job keeping the humidity very high, and the clone is erected looking for light, which means it has enough moisture in the bucket and is happy. I can't take the wrap off yet, since I plan to let her stay in there for 3 days before I give her any fresh air for the first time, so I took some picks the way she is at the moment. Nevertheless she is a healthy clone and I don't see no reason that will stop her from becoming a mother plant. I'll take some more picks in two days when I take the cover off. ![]()
