![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Alright, I'm back. I'm weak. What can I say? Situation....I took clones on the 16th. So far, the clones are looking green and not wilted...BUT it does feel as if some of the plugs are getting pretty dry. I don't see nary a peep of a root...that doesn't bother me...but I am concerned about the Rapid Rooters drying out in several more days. I'm not thinking about misting but I'm wondering about watering some of them from the bottom do rehydrate them if it comes to that. Some plugs feel "moister" than others. None of them are wet. I do see lots of beaded droplets on the sides and the top lid, so I imagine there's plenty of humidity. So, any suggestions, peptalks and/or stern lectures would be appreciated. Thanks.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hey...thanks, Luke. Nah...I'm not worried about the rooting. It's only four days in and the plants are looking upright and very green. I'm more concerned about the Rapid Rooter plugs drying out as the days continue. Congrats, BTW...on your success. Slow as it may be. Maybe I'll stick one of those hygrometer probes in to the tub.

What ever the plugs don't drink will evaporate. How is the temp outside the dome? Remember those are plugs, soil holds much more water, so you have to compensate a bit.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks, Lou Cypher. I'm measuring the temperature now. I would guess around 70 or high 60s...I would assume temps inside the dome are about 10 degress higher as it's sitting on a propagation pad. I have rehydrated the plugs...but just barely, then I dumped the excess water. This should take them a few more miles down the road, I would think.

Heating Pads can dehydrate the dome quicker than supposed to if the temp is not in check all the time.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks, man. I will be careful but I'm not sure I should forego the pad because it is a bit cool in the basement. I've put a thermometer in the grow box though...It has a separate probe which I stuck in the tub. I'll check the temps on the morrow and will have a better sense as to where things are at..

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | mayan, the best way I can describe the "cons" of heating pads will be like, putting a frozen burger on the fry pan. If you don't flip the burger you'll end up with a burned side and a medium frozen side. Your dome's overall temp might seem to be (lets say) 85F, but at the bottom where the dome sits on the pad, its way hotter. Usually these pads come with three settings instead of degrees, if you pass the Low setting, you're cooking burgers. Not only you're dehydrating your medium but you are killing the young roots that require moisture to stay alive. I had so much problems with them in the past. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Ah...I see why you are concerned. I'm not using one of the standard "medical" heating pads with the settings. I'm using one of those black propagation pads which has no settings but only gives a very moderate heat..I would surprised if its cooking roots...particularly because the plugs are in the plastic inserts and because I've turned the plugs upside down, they don't sit a the bottom of the inserts so there is even a further air cushion. I appreciate your pointing this out to me and will certainly keep my eyes on things. I would actually be more frightened of using a "space heater" in my little grow area...those things, unsupervised, scare me. At the same time, however, I'm not sure it would be good, in the basement to have no heat. In fact, I hope that the clone space is warm enough. Although, come summer could be a different situation. Hmmmm, I will soon be checking the thermometer that I put in last night...so I'll have a better understanding.
