That's great. Most of the info found so far re differences has been about seeds; so good to get a clone perspective.

i will pass it on. Get back to you with anything interesting we find.

You thought i had some big words; the geneticists put me to shame. lol. best wishes nigel

Had mentioned it in my first thread too, but at the time been a newbie wise ass, no one paid attention to that part of my cloning.

The top will always be the same as the plant it self, its not really a clone.
A clone will actually be, a secondary brunch and higher.

Keep topping a top of a top of a top and so on, and you will always have the same mom really, scientifically that is, physically will look like few generations went by.

So as you see there aren't "mids" or underside, rather, main/secondary/ and so on brunches.
The higher the less of its pheno the plant will carry within its DNA.

Let me see, if I can make some sense out of that.

If your clone is actually a brunch of a brunch of a brunch, there will be almost nothing looking like the donor plant.

To keep the same pheno going you have to get the main top of the plant and keep topping that top.

Best clones for a perpetual will be the secondary growth, any higher than that and your clones wont taste much as the donor plant.

Good morning,

Wow, i've never known that about the "Tops" & "Branches" - i'm glad now that i'd taken the main "Tops" of my BB & BG along with the lower branches, of course the "Tops" have been labelled as "Top".
Most of my other clones have been taken from lower lateral branches. So, I take it than, the only thing these clones carry over from their parents is the name on the label, am I Correct??
Thank you for bringing this to my attention as i'll use this info to my advantage with future cloning to keep the mothers "True"

Have a Great day Lou and everyone else
don

p.S. those 6 BB's & 6 BG's I cut a week ago have all rooted except two BB's no clue why and i've managed to give away a bunch of trained clones both to some "cardholder" friends and through another friend a clinic in Vancouver. Its a great way to "give back" what ive been Blessed to be able to do.
Now I have a TW & a Medicine Man (supposedly aka White Rhino) ready for cloning, and will definitely be remembering the Topping thing. Thanks again Lou
p.S.s. Just didn't want you to forget about me, i'm still out here cloning over my limit. hahahahaha!!! Peace

Hey Lou,

So basically you are topping the plant to force it to regenerate more secondary growth. Then you take clones from the new secondary growth?

Here its a little baby drawing that I did for a visual sense of what I'm talking about.

Generally a plant will brunch out [blue] brunches the first month of vegging and usually, thats the cuttings that most growers will use for clones of the main plant.
Those [blue] brunches will carry directly the donors DNA.

However, if this [blue] clone kept for a future donor plant, her [blue] brunches will be a clone of a clone, and that second clone will not have direct DNA connection with the donor plant that her mom came from.

Are you guys with me so far?

When a donor plant kept for more than few months vegging, another set of brunches from the [blue] brunches emerges, and that will be the higher brunching, [purple] brunches.

Those brunches actually do have the same genetic make up of their mom, but they can't transfer that DNA make up to their off springs, so any cutting of that will have very little resemblance to the donor.

So in conclusion, if someone wants to keep the pheno of the donor plant going, only [blue] clones should be taken and when the mom start brunching [purple] brunches she should go in to flowering and her top should be the next donor plant.

Usually I take the top off the donor mom, and by the time it grows and have her own [blue] brunches I have taken a good amount of clones from her mom, so I throw her in to 12/12, leaving me with a fresh mom that ITS NOT a copy, that top is still the original plant.

I'll do the same to that fresh mom and so on, usually each mom goes for about 3 months in my grow room and then she gets refreshed.

The top of a top of a top of a top ..... will always be the same plant.
No DNA dilution here.

So, tops will be the perfect donor plant, secondary brunching will be the best clones for a grow, and the third brunching cuttings will be.....Elvis left the building clones, something totally new, out of the original pheno.

A good sign is when i ripped apart the rockwool there was roots they just didnt make it out of hte rockwool before the plant died.

don, the cubes that you opened, were wet inside?
If yes, they die from lack of oxygen.

Throw me some details on the conditions prior to them dying, dome open/close, how many days in dome etc.

You can take clones while the plant is in 12/12, will just take few more days than usual for them to root.

Don't give up buddy, it seems that for many RW cubes are tricky for cloning.
Or they're too dry or too wet.
I have to try some and see it first hand soon.

litlte bit wet ive taken some new clones now, i think its because i left the dome open too long. It was 2 weeks tho since i placed them in the dome check after 2 hours and no wliting then went to sleep owke up and they were totally wilted put hte dome back on for a day and no changes so i decided to open the rw cubes to see if i actauly got any roots this time.

trying to post this from my iphone sorry bout the spelling lol

Hmmm, fascinating but, whooops, lou, ya lost me. I thought that ALL clones are little holographic representations of the same plant. Thus, cloning from clones should be the same as the original donor. How would something else be introduced into the guts of the plants most interior "self" to change the DNA from plant to plant? I had thought I read that one of the mods, the one who does the perpetual SOG, has been cloning from the same original donor for years...taking clones of clones...while maintaining the same DNA stock. Am I reading you wrong? Whatever...very interesting stuff.
