I took some fairly big cuttings, maybe 8-10 inches tall, put them in a cup of water for a couple of hours to make sure all of the cells were as "full" as possible, buried them all of the way to the bottom of 4" nursery pots full of damp coco and then put them in very indirect light, 80 F and about 60%RH...no dome. One of them, a Trainwreck, wilted fairly significantly but is fighting its way back (no misting, it was root hog or die). This was 3 or 4 days ago... ![]() I am wondering if burying it deeper will allow a bigger root system to develop quicker or not cause it probably does not pay to have a huge clone if the root system doesn't support it. Trying to figure out the best size cutting to take. What do you think clonemeister Lou? And yes, I am a very sloppy gardener ![]()

![]() ![]() | Hey Guys thought i would add some advice here for some people having trouble like i did for the first 10 times trying to clone. I did the whole deal with the dome heating pad and everything and nothing seemed to work. I came accross another thread on another site and this method has worked fabulous for me. I only tried it once but all 4 clones rooted in 5-6 days. Here is what i did. All you need is rooting powder, clean razor, beer cup (red ones best to keep light out. and little bit of plastic wrap. 1. Take your beer cup and put plastic wrap on the top. take a knife and make a slit in the centre for a clone stem to fit into. 2. Take razor and make 45 degree angle cut and immeditely dip into rooting powder. 3. now take the cutting. and place it in the cup with 1-2 inches of stem submerged into the water. 4. Place on the window seal or in your grow area 3 feet away from the HID 400w, 5. Change the water every day or every 48 hours in a week or less you will see roots. hope this helps some of you, Lou's way is simple and great but for some reason just didnt want to work for me. If others are having trouble you can try this way

![]() I like taking big cuttings my self, cause once they root I have already an almost grown plant, but I'm not always able to, since I take clones weekly off my donor plants, and they don't have time to grow long brunches. My ideal clone will be longer than 6" long from cut to tip, and with at least some side growth. If the stem is thicker than 1/8" I do scrape gently the stem in 2-3 different spots at the part that will be burried under the media. Burrying the stem deeper definitely will create a bigger root system but I don't think it will be quicker, rather a bit slower from my experience with big "tops" that I have cloned. They usually take 2-3 days longer to root but definitely they explode when they do, and that is because of the bigger root system they developed. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I started seeing roots at 10 or so days. Others have shown quicker, perhaps, each of my two clone runs were enormously successful. Patience, my friend. How do the clones look? Did you follow the method described at the beginning of the thread?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() How long? Will depend on strain genetics, how consistent its your temp and RH, and the amount of patience you have. Anywhere from a week to a month. ![]()
