Just wanted to add that my clones absolutely took root. I wish I had a camera with me when I transplanted them. Most of the bottom 1/4" of the cup was rootbound. I soaked the plant and shook a lot of the top dirt off, since the roots were obviously all near the very bottom. I left whatever soil was held on by the roots and repotted them into a 1 gallon pot. They should have lots of room to thrive for a while and hopefully im going to see lots of new growth fairly soon.

They look pretty much exactly the same as the last pics I posted. Im assuming that it might take a little longer to start the reveg full on, than it did to take root.

aep, that is good new buddy.

I had faith that these girls had the will to survive.

Good luck with them and I hope we get to see some more purple buds soon.

Whew...Just read through almost all the stuff in here about clonal drift etc.

Lou, since you seem to be the most versed in that subject, I've got a question.

When most people are pheno-picking, they plant the 10 seeds they get in the pack, veg them awhile, then take a branch or two from each, flower them, and save the clones from the best performing females after harvest, for mothers.

Going by what I read, that isn't really a great idea since they are taking a side branch, which will not exhibit the same characteristics as the plant that it was taken from. The only real way would be to take the top of each plant before flowering, to get an exact copy for a mother....correct? Not really sure how you could take the top of a plant, and then review its flowering performance without a top though....so how should one go about picking a pheno?

hey hydro

All the clones coming off the same plant regardless from where they were taking from the plant, they'll be the same pheno as the plant they came from.

The best way to choose a pheno will be to take, one clone of each of the plants you have growing, put it at 12/12 harvested and smoke it.

Pick the one you like, find from which plant it came from and that will be your mom.

Personally what I have done the past year was, I toped the plant and threw it in to flower.

After I harvested and smoked it I kept the tops corresponding to the plants that I wanted to keep.

Take to consideration that by the time the main plants flower, their clones will be full grown plants ready to be moms.

Thanks Lou.

So, what is this "secondary growth" that your NOT supposed to take clones from....is this the "branch, growing off another branch" growth?

How does this fall into place when you don't use mothers and you just clone the rooted clones going into flower, for the next batch. Since the rooted clones are the side branches of the mother, and you are now taking a side branch from them, you are effectively taking the "secondary growth" from the original plant...sorry I can't word it any less confusing

So you have a mother plant. You take 10 side branches as clones and root them. Now, all of the branches of these clones, would actually be secondary growth of the mother...so if you take clones from 5th or 6th generation clones, wouldn't you really be dealing with like...super extra really secondary growth? Or does the order of growth start over once a clone is rooted, and is then considered a new plant?

Sorry for confusing the hell out of anyone

I think what your talking about is the clonal drift of a plant... From what Ive read it can happen from cloning the way your talking about, but would take a long time to see any difference. I forget who had experimented and documented it, but I remember they mentioned about 12-14 clones into the process potency decreased a little and some growth differences. Im sure If your keep one mother it is more stable, but I could be wrong too. Rather than keeping a new clone as a mother over and over again.

Speaking of clonal drift, it reminds me of a cartoon I saw online once about clones if bill cosby. I dunno why but it does. Its called House of Cosbys, a must see btw!!

PS - heres my clone now Lou, doing very well and on its way to giving me many more clones to flower out. The other one isnt really putting out any drastic new growth yet, but I see it growing real slow still.

Good morning,

An update from my world .. I harvested my three Ladies yesterday two LST BB & AK47 and one vertical BG after their 10 week (two day flush) flower cycle all flowered exclusively under the forty-eight inches of 8-tube "Spectralux" HOT5's and even though this is a wet weight (a friend was curious of the loss of weight after drying) got 17.44 oz from two LST'd (BB, AK47) & one short (BG) vertical - (BB=6.98 oz., AK=6.19 oz., BG=4.27 oz).
We're thinking maybe ending up with 8 - 10 oz dry for the total weight..
I gotta say, i'm happy I finally made into the "Beyond-an-Ounce" Club This is by far my biggest harvest in a long time without the use of high (MH/HPS) energy growing.
And the F1 Tw's (two more were added into the flower cab yesterday after harvest, made some room) are still holding onto that all "Female" side of life but, i'm keeping a close eye on these due to how I came to the seeds three harvests back..
So far, knock on wood they are 100% female now in there (just started today) 3rd week of flower.

Have a Great day and Thanks Lou for all your help

Of course you can king.
Once the clone its rooted its a plant and can be treated as such.

Your growing skills are getting better Don and its paying back.

aep, you did it buddy, you kept the strain going, will love to see another harvest of that plant for sure.

Correct hydro, once a plant its rooted its stem becomes the 'main' stem and any brunch there after a secondary.

Keep it green guys.
