Question Another cloning ?
permalink

I know there are like a million cloneing questions and answers out there on this site but for some reason after many attempts it still isnt "easy" or "second nature" to me yet. Its been hard. I've tried that rockwool cubes in a tray with a heater mat from the hydro store under it to maintain the temps, nothing. I've used the grow plugs that were made out of the composite tree bark( cant remember the name) and I've gotten about 35-45% at best only two different times. I've just wasted another two weeks and several cuttings again without any results. I just dont know how to do this the right way. I even own a 25 site power cloner by botanicare that I thought would make everything just "too easy" but I've never even gotten one successful clone outa it. I've tried pH'ed tap water with the nutrients that came with the power cloner nothing. The pH just skyrockets after one day and its nearly impossible to keep the pH where I want to. I've used ph'ed RO water with the same results but without the nutrients that came with the system. Just good clean RO water and still the pH climbs. How does only pH balanced RO water with no nutrients climb to a different pH within just hours? I just dont get it yet. I've seen some people who use these systems use a timer, say 1 on and 4 off for a 5 min cycle. Does this really help or is it needed as the sprayer shouldnt be running 24/7? I really just don't know what Im doing wrong and I have a very good understanding of growing so I dont know what Im not getting. Does it sound normal to have the pH always climb even with nothing to make it climb or change? I hope i've given enough clues to my cloning problems for somebody to hopfully catch the error of my ways. I really hope somebody can help me, beause done right that power cloner should be pumpin them out right? I hope this helps and let me know if you have some more questions for me to maybe help me understand alil better. Thanks guys

I use an EZ cloner which is just an expensive aero cloner and after 2 semi-successful cloning runs here is what I've learned.

1) The cloner needs to be super clean. It needs to be pre-run and made sure that no residues are left on it.

2) Don't use RO water and don't use nutrients. Your clones only need some cloning hormone and regular tap water.

3) Watch the temps. 75-80 seems to work best for me.

4) Spray the roots 24/7, they need the humidity at all times in the root zone.

5) I personally don't worry about PH too much, but try to keep it in the 6.0 range when I start and I leave it until they clone.

6) Give the tops a good spray a few times a day or keep them under a dome.

Lastly, Some strains are just tough to clones. This last time I had 2 strains that just wouldn't clone while the other 4 strains had only 2 that didn't clone.

Check out's Lou's Cloning Technique. I've had 90% success rate and have done over 80 clones using this method now. It would be a higher success rate, but I got over zealous on one batch and took too many clones which led to fungus.

I just built and put to use an Aero Cloner only July 5th. Everything looks good soo far. The clones aren't droppy, and they don't show any yellowing yet. I'll have more to report hopefully by this weekend. But just did 2 parts RO water and 1 part TAP. (I used RO water because my water comes out of the tap at 580ppm.) Didn't PH the water.
