Required Items: Healthy Mother Plant Rockwool Cubes - any size and any number ![]() Razor Blade - not necessarily clean (see pics) ![]() Tap Water Rockwool Tray Humidity Dome I don't bother pre-soaking my cubes ... I am all about low-maintenance growing I only wet my rockwool just prior to cloning... and have only used tap water for years. No gels, no powders ... just tap water. Today we are cutting three clones for a friend ![]() The genetics requested were Skunkwidow x AK47 Select the most developed branches possible ... preferably the main growth tips. They not only tend to root faster ... but also tend to be more productive in the long run I will be cutting this branch just above the node where my thumb is. I will leave that large side branch to become the new main shoot ![]() ![]() This is what was removed for this clone: ![]() My next cut will be where you see the razor blade. Always try to make your final cuts at nodal intersections. This gives your clone the best chance of rooting quickly. ![]() Whoa ... slow down ... I know you are excited ... but this is where we need to be careful and take the most care Try your best to cut at a forty five degree angle across the stem. This also helps speed rooting, and survival rates, by exposing a larger area (compared to a straight cut) for the plant to use to intake water. Try to use a cleaner razor than me ![]() ![]() In as short a time as possible ... immediately dip the cutting into fresh tap water... this seals the wound from air and contaminants. ![]() Insert the cutting into rockwool gently ... but being sure that is actually held in place by the material. You want the exposed area of the cutting surrounded by the rockwool. Do not just drop them into the hole and cover them ... press them a quarter inch or so into the rockwool and then cover the hole. ![]() Dip cube and cutting into tap water once again: ![]() After taking your cuttings following the steps above ... put them all into rockwool trays (I cant believe I ever cloned in rockwool without them!). The black trays help the cubes retain moisture over a couple days and give the roots a dark area to grow into Rockwool cubes sitting in pools of water make cloning take a very long time... the trays keep the cubes up off the floor of the humidity dome.![]() Then into the humidity dome they all go for a 14 day incubation I water the cubes every 2 days ... just enough to get them moist again. I don't mist or foliar feed... I want them *looking* for water and nutrients ... IE: Growing Roots ![]() ![]() After 14 days, without fail ... I get beautifully rooted clones that are ready for veg ... or flower ![]() Good Growing and Happy Cloning Maven

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Nice picks and easy to understand instructions. Good job Maven, that will definitely help few people to see, that special hormones/gels or powders and other than tap water is not necessary to get clones to root. IMO environment is everything. ![]() | ||

12 days after taking the clones ... everyone is showing roots Some more than others ![]() In another couple days, these ladies will all be ready for veg or flower ![]() To ensure quick rooting ... in my opinion, it is essential to not mist or foliar feed. You want the plants to be actively seeking water. I maintain my humidity dome at around 60 - 80% RH and my temps at 75*F - 80*F. As Lou stated ... environment is also very important ![]() Some growers will feed a small amount of macro nutrients during cloning (I used to) ... but I find it unnecessary now. A large, and healthy, clone (6"+) will have sufficient nutrients stored within its fan leaves to get it through the 14 days required to grow roots. After all the clones have roots ... feed as normal Maven
