Cloning durring flowering stage?
permalink

Can cuttings for cloning be started after the mother plant is in its flowering stage?
If so would this simply produce a smaller plant with fewer flowers?

I have only one closet to grow in and so I can't have both 12 hours of light and 24 hours of light in one 6 foot wide by 2 foot closet... I mean, even if I could partition the closet so light from the veg area doesn't sneak into the flowering area... the heat in that closet would be really high.

Or can I take cuttings for cloning a week or two before changing the lighting from 24 to 12 hours for both the 6 week old plants and the new clone?

Clone when you want. If you clone a week or two into flower, it'll just take longer for the clone to re-veg and send out roots.

There's a good way to search listed in my sig. Do this, and you will find 27,000 good posts on cloning, if such is your fancy.
Let it grow, my son.

Yes. I have noticed more failures when cloning from budding plants but my Northern Lights#5 haven't lost any.

If your situation is that you're having only one room, why don't you just re-veg the mom?

Thanks for all the replies
When do I harvest from the mom if I am re-veging it? Won't the mom be losing leaves when I harvest?
Would harvesting from a mom mean not drying stems and buds, but rather just drying the buds?

Insomniac, when you feel that your plant its ready to be harvested to your preference, harvest all the buds and leave as much vegetation and small popcorn buds in the bottom as you can.

Give her a good flush, feed her some veg nutes and throw her under 24/0.
In couple of weeks she will start re-vegging, and when you think she is big enough, throw her to 12/12 again.

I recently cloned a heavy flowering plant. The clones have lived and grown plenty of roots, but since it was a bud, I forgot to clip the top off to spur new growth. Sometimes they'll get stuck and need a little encouragement to grow outward

So to clone its necessary to top or clip of ... most ... or all new growth?

Good morning,

Another thing to add to this is when re-vegging a flowered plant you have to remember to either transplant to the next size up container or "Root Prune" the plant and transplant into a "Clean" the same size or smaller container.
In my experiences with regenning a plant that has already flowered and been harvested leaving behind all or most of the popcorn buds to re-grow i've found that transplanting needed to be done or the Lady would die. I've lost a few due to this slight oversight.

Good luck and have a Great day

hi there, this thread is a total revalation too me (as is most of the subjects on here ) if this is ok too do this then why do most people chop down the plant when harvesting, ive grown a plant (bagseed) in a back room window all summer & shes well into flower with some nice heads but most of the rest of the bud is small they all have nice crystalls formed on them but it seems to have stalled & not really grown any wieght to her buds apart from 4 or 5 nice heads, i put this down to only nute'ing her with a general plant food thru - out her life & only having her under a 70W son-t lamp for the last month, also the room she used to be in was my bedroom & she used to get a blast of light in her dark cycle each time i went to bed,(before i new any better) so its ok after hrvesting wot little i get then repot her & then bang her back into 24hr to reveg & have another crack at her but with nutes this time ??
