| I tried to clone for the first time last week. I have two plants, so I labeled the plants A and B, then took a dish of soil and labeled one side A and the other B. I clipped a two-inch or so leaf from each plant, about 3 nodes up from the bottom. I then dipped the bottoms in distilled water, then dipped them in root hormone. I then planted the leaves about 1/2 down into the soil, and watered lightly. I then placed the soil box with these cuttings about 4" below my floros. All they did was shrivel up. No root growth, no nothing. Could anyone tell me what I did wrong? DrChronic ![]() | ||

Did you tap off the excess power from the cutting? You want a VERY light layer of rooting hormone on the stem too much is just as good as none. What happened was the plant couldn't draw enough water in and it dried out ... Use a dome, a plastic bag, a clear cover of any sorts to keep the humidity very high. or use a product like Wilt_proof or something (Another ATI spray) to help lock the moisture in or get a spary bottle and keep it misted with plain water ... Here's my (now turning into) old song and dance ... the areo cloner is wonderful ... If I do see a little wilting in the areo cloner I just push the cutting down to the water's edge and it perks back up .... I have had 100% results so far (even with undesirable cuttings), most roots start to show with 5 days or less ![]() Good Growing LB

Sides shoots and lower branching or using the top of the plant all make good cuttings. the 4"-6" is a min the bigger the better ![]() You can check my diary as well it has some good cloning info it ...... | Thanks guys. It sounds like the leaf was too small, and I didn't tap off the excess powder, so that probably figured into it too. The next time I try to clone, I think I'm going to try it hydroponically. I have the beginnings of a hydro system, and someone recommened (somewhere on this site) taking the cuttings and putting them through a slit in a styrofoam plate, then floating that in your hydro set-up until they got a good root system. Does anyone know if I should use the rooting powder with this method? DrChronic ![]()
