Hey Wolfman,
Sorry that I did not notice that you are the Moderator here!So please let me know what you think of my clone plan.
I have the little submersible pump from the aqurarium and 2 12 gallon plastic barrels that I found in the supply room and I also found a roll of clear 3/8ths." tubing that fits on the outlet of the little pump.
So I thought that I would cut off the top of one of the plastic barrels and use water,dried grass clippings ,a little bit of the peters 20-20-20 and a speck of the 10-60-10 mixed with about 5 gallons of water with a length of tube running from the pump outlet up above the water level to allow for oxygenation of the water as well as constant movement of the minerals and micronutreints from the fertilizers as well as the benifit of the grass clippings breaking down.
If I use styrofoam to float my clones in this soloution under 24/7 lights do you think this will work? If this will work to start root growth it may give me time to gather enough soil to grow them in.
I have been reading a little as you can see but would still like to know what you think and if there is anything else that I may need to do to make this setup work.
Here is a list of supplies that I managed to pilfer over the course of the past six months, And yes I was GREEDY with a few items!
On Hand Supplies:
36 4' dual bulb flourescent light fixtures and 81 40watt residential cool white bulbs and another 53 40watt institutional use warm white bulbsand this does not include the 560watts of lights in my grow room.
Approximatly 250' 12/3 electrical wire 4-4 outlet receptical 110v grounded outlets and plastic nail on receptical boxes.
2 5 gallon buckets of drywall joint compound and 12 rolls of drywall tape.
23 4' by 4' pieces of 5/8ths. drywall and 2 4' by 7' pieces of wonderboard that is used behind tile in the bathrooms(it's waterproof!).
25 bathroom exauhst fans with built in ionizers and rated airflow@1150cfm.
A couple of honeywell digital thermastats and durecell batteries.
Oh Yeah! The lamp that I found in the supply room with the 220watt incadescent bulb that is as bright as the South Florida Sun!
The 2 plastic barrels and the stuff from the aquarium.
And best of all:2- 300amp service panels completely wired up and with breakers but nothing on them except my "Retreat From The Office"!
I dial out at night on the fax line because they turn off the fax machine at 6:30pm est. and I have a local dialup for my server that is a free server so it is SAFE to use.
I know how strange this all sounds but I can't spend all of my time doing just that...TIME! I believe that this is a calming hobby and that it relaxes ones body and mind,Or MAYBE I'm just HIGH!
Anyways, back to the topic.
Let me know what you think of my plan for cloning. And I will continue to gather what I can.

I'm just finishing the cloning guide, if you can wait a few more days i think you will find it very usefull

basically i just cut a growing tip, clean the lower nodes and stick them in soil, under florus but let me invite Lilbuddie to come here, he as a different way of doing it that might help you better then i.

I think your plan will work You don't have to use so many nutes and grass and all that in the water. You can use a very light high P food in the water or nothing at all. I clone in straight water in my areo-cloner and get great results with it. I have seen the setup you are describing (or something close) it kinda looks like lil islands of styrofoam floating around with a single palm tree on it

I think you'll do fine with your idea but woudln't put too much in the water to start

Look around for H2O2 (Hydrogen Peroxide) It will either be 3% retail grade, usually in small brown plastic bottles or 17% commercial grade. The commercial grade is used for sterilization, usually in the lab or the kitchen.

If you find the 3% use 1 bottle in the mix you described above. If it's the 17% use @ 15 ml/ mix as above. I'd be more specific if I knew how large the barrels are.

Other than that you seem to have it down. Keep on keepin' on.

Like BD said you don't need all that equipment to clone. All I use is little bottles with some water in them and put the clones in until they start showing roots. They do need light while this is going on but it doesn't have to be really bright light. It helps if you have some rooting powder or gel that you can put on the cut ends before you put them in the water. Clonex is great but there are other products you can use.

It's important that you select your clone carefully. It has to have some little leaves on the end but you need to cut off the large leaves. You will be tempted to save them but they aren't going to make it anyway and will slow down the process. A good size is about 3" and should be about 1/8" in dia at the cut point. Smaller will work but may die. You don't want too large a piece. Over about 5 or 6 inches seems to become more difficult. The plant has a hard time getting enough water to such a big piece when it doesn't have any roots yet. Soon as you see some little roots formed put it right in soil but keep the soil moist for a couple days. It can still dry out quickly. Soon as you see growth you can up the light and give it ferts.

Hey All,
Well I set up my system the way that it is described above.
And set it up with 2 25 watt flourescents at about 7" above the clones,and of the 4 that I started the other day, they all stll look as good as the day that they were amputated.But I did an un-orthodox step or two that we will see if it has any effects on the plants(I left all of the leaves on and split the stem with a razor about 1/8th" in length.I have read that this is a great way to not only promote root growth, But by leaving the other leaves you are in fact giving it a set of fan leaves to gather more usable light. This is supposed to show dramatic rate of growth for the clones.
So I guess I will let you guys and girls know how this system works.
