Rooting Hormone

I went to wally world today and bought this stuff called Take Root rooting hormone made by Schultz. It is for growing new plants from cuttings (to clone). The fu**ed up thing about it is that there are no directions on how to apply it. I'm sure somebody out there has used this or something similar so can you please let me know.Thanks. Skell

Skellington, it is pretty much the same as every other rooting hormone, after romving your clone from the water you put it in right after cutting it, dip it into the hormone, wipe off the extra, and place the clone in the medium.

Hey arctic, would it better to keep the clone in a humidity dome or something to that effect? Also, is that root hormone supposed to be a powder? It is my first time using it and that is the kind I have.

ok guys here's my 2 cents...

ok i have that same exact rooting horomone skellington... red top right?... well at least when i bought mine it had a red top, anyhow, this is what i've done and have read and i have 4 nice clones vegging now after multiple F'ups.

what i did was i took a nice sized branch about 5-6 inches in length, you take off all but about the top 3-4 leaves, with a sharp pair of scissors, take the end of the stem, submerge it in water (like a bowl of water), and cut the end of the stem at a 45 degree angle, (what this does is it creates the most area of the stem available for roots to grow, or at least that's what i read), then wet the stem about 2 inches of it dip it in the rooting horomone and plant the stem with all the horomone covered part under the growing medium. now you want the stem to keep the rooting horomone on it so don't water like normal... need to get yourself a spray bottle and mist the medium to damp, just enough to keep it moist, in a week or two you should have some healthy enough plants to start watering like normal.

good luck!!!

and PS, if it don't work the first time, try try again, your bound to get one right sooner or later, just keep in mind what you do everytime differently, what works for one might not work for another, so if what i've told ya' hasn't worked, try doing it slightly different, and see if that works for you.

Skellington, Yes I would reccomend a propogator with a humidity dome. I also would off these points as well as the instructions that gangacowboy stated.

1. Always use a SHARP STERILE instrument to take your cutting, clean scissors or razor blade with alcohol before using. Also after taking the cutting any leaves that nned to be removed should be done under water (not the whole leaf just the area where the node connects to the stem) also a final cut should be mad on the stem while under water. This prevents air from getting into the stem, air will stop root production.

2. If using rockwool as your medium, 48 hours before you are going to use them soak them in water that has been adjusted to 5.0-5.5 ph, then after 24 hours, drain and rewater with water that is at 5.5 ph, drain and let set overnight, 2 hours before you are going to use them place them in your propogator (without the dome) and set on a heating pad that is on medium setting.

(I have a mother that I have grown for 5 years, she has produced real close to 1,000 clones, I have experimented alot and this works for me. I find that Rockwool doesn't stay warm well and heating it gives your clones a better start.)

3. Always take the upper branches when possible, they contain a higher degree of growth hormone, than the lower ones.

4. Never spray the clone itself when watering, only mist the lid of the humidity dome. Forces faster rooting and helps to keep down root rot.

5. Never place to close to the light, clones light the light to be defused.

6. BE PATIENT. Most mistakes are made because people are in a rush.

As I stated above, I am not stating that this is the "best" method or that it is the "right" method, this is what works for me. I went from having a 7% success rate when I started, to nearly 98-99% now. I still have that occassional clone that just wont root, but not as often.
