What is the best way to leave clones for 4 days and not come back to dead, dried out and limp string beans?

The Clones are unrooted and 1 week old. They are in those organic tree bark Grow Plugs sitting in 3 inch cups surrounded by gro-rocks. They are 4-8 Inches tall, under Floros in cheap plastic propogation dome. Temp 75 Degrees, weak veg nutes, 5.5 Ph of spray bottle (used to water the clones).


I have heard 4 suggestions and would welcome more with your evaluations....

1. Pull the Grow Plugs out of the rocks and put them in 6 inch Rockwool Cubes. Will they stay moist for 4 days (with some water on the bottom of the tray perhaps???)

2. Put the grow plugs in soil..

3. Put the grow plugs in perlite saturated with water.

4. Put the 3inch cups holding the gro rocks, grow plugs and the clones directly into the hydroponic drip system and let the chips fall where they may.

My money is on option # 3!

I use perlite humidification for all my clones and it seems to be workin fine for me! You dont want perlite soup tho, just nicely wetted, as long as you've got a 1/2 inch covering the bottom it can keep a full sized rubbermaid bin at 100% humidity for weeks.

Note: 100% isnt optimal for clones, you'd want less - I usually let a small gap so fresh air can come in... But for the four days your gone you might want to just close em up, 100% humidity wont hurt em one bit for only 4 days.

It worked. Thanks everybody. If anything he used to much water as the plugs stayed 100% humidified as promissed.

I'm too late with this one, but you can always just take clones naked, and throw them in a cup of water under light. I've kept clones going for a week/two weeks without attendance, cut the soft tip off (if root isn't growing by then) dip in rooting hormone and root as usual. Sometimes the root just pops out by itself.

You just want to be careful to prop the cutting up so it won't fall into the water.
